There's also a distinction between places where UHNW fortunes are made, and where they're maintained. Aspen would be one extreme, San Jose the other.

The count for Houston appears to be omitted.

While I understand that the 100 or so billionaire oligarchs (who answer to Putin) control nearly half of Russia's assets, I'm still suprised the 5,000+ mere multi-millionaires (who answer to Putin) didn't get Moscow on this list.

Maybe an access to information challenge...

Foreign net worth/assets is hard to measure due to fluctuating exchange rates. Also, I doubt multi-millionaires "answer to Putin". Chances are they do not know anybody in the Kremlin at all. Too low and unimportant and there is too many of them.

There seems to be an endless stream of rankings for how much wealth exists in various cities. More telling would be the other side of the coin: Ultra-Low Net Worth.

If you took the bottom quartile of the population, what cities top the list for most amount of wealth? Not only would the list be damning for a number of cities in the Top 20 UHNW list, it's arguably a more important yardstick when comparing cities. How 25% of the population in these cities live matters a great deal more than how 0.1% or less (who're classified as Ultra-High New Worth) live.

Very few or none of the cities in the UHNW Top 20 would do well when looking at their bottom quartile. In the developed world, cities like Copenhagen would. The bottom 25% would have far more wealth than the bottom 25% in a city like Los Angeles. That's the mark of a great city and something a city can be proud of. Making the Top 20 in the UHNW ranking rings hollow if you have a big chunk of your population living in abject poverty. Hong Kong is 3rd but tens of thousands live in cages. Some of these other cities on the list (tent cities in California) aren't much better .

Yeah, but we have the 3rd most UHNW individuals!
