I was looking back on my flickr account just out of curiousity and noticed some things worth posting here. These are various images taken on my old DSLR that broke down last year, that I took five years ago.

I apologize for the lower exposures, it's a preference of mine in composition, although this is a bit extreme:

Mid-march Montreal: gritty, dirty , twisted and mangled, and grimy as fuck. It's almost as if 3 months of harsh winter has beaten down the city to its bare bones, and revolution is in the air...

Northdale Waterloo during St. Patrick's Day 2023

Partiers spill onto Marshall Street at Regina Street in Waterloo for St. Patrick’s Day
Ezra Avenue fenced off but students gather on streets nearby, blocking intersection of Marshall and Regina streets

WATERLOO — Thousands of students, donning green-coloured shirts, sweaters and hats, spilled onto Marshall Street at the intersection of Regina Street to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Friday.
The rain had stopped by mid afternoon and revellers gathered on the street, blocking the intersection. They also gathered on driveways, sidewalks and in front of student buildings, as well as on front porches.
Ezra Avenue, the hot spot for unsanctioned street parties in the past, was fenced off from King Street to Albert Street, blocking the street from cars and groups of people gathering....

Nice icy freshy set of Winnipeg pics - beautiful Wpg Guy. Also nice seeing St. John’s and the Montreal sets - thanks or sharing. That Montreal gritty set was so gritty I needed to take a shower after. As for the Waterloo pics - maybe I’m well past by university days prime, but hard to see the St. Patrick’s Day fun in that street scene - but alcohol can do magical things.

General Lee - a darker exposure looks good for city shots, especially when the sun is bright, so often a good choice I think.

Beautiful images everyone. Montreal is really on a whole other level in this country when it comes to fine, urban grain over a wide area.
That Winnipeg set above really demonstrates how much care is put into the more institutional buildings in the core. The botanical garden si beautiful, I had no idea it was even completed.

And thanks GS, appreciate the high praise! I didn’t take many pics really in February, hopefully more in March. As for the poles, just look as you drive by (well, don’t crash into one), and especially in Fernwood. There’s even a Instagram account dedicated to photographing them - The Painted Poles of Victoria.
Thank you very much for your pictures as well as research on the beautiful Garry Oak trees located in Victoria! I was born in Victoria still have great memories of the city. Flying kites on the ocean near Dallas road as well as climbing the Garry Oak trees as a child. I truly believe Victoria is the most under rated city in Canada followed closely by Quebec city. Even though internationally they are always rated well! Within our own country they are really under appreciated for how great they really are. My personal opinion of course but I really believe this. Thanks again I always enjoy pictures of Beacon hill park.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quercus_garryana (Quercus garryana is an oak tree species of the Pacific Northwest, with a range stretching from southern California to southwestern British Columbia.[3] It is commonly known as the Oregon white oak or Oregon oak or, in Canada, the Garry oak. It grows from sea level to an altitude of 690 feet (210 metres) in the northern part of its range, and from 980 to 5,900 ft (300 to 1,800 m) in the south of the range in California.[4] The eponymous Nicholas Garry was deputy governor of the Hudson's Bay Company.)

I drove up to Nanaimo today to buy a new commercial Toro lawnmower. I managed to take some very quick photos as I had very little time to walk around. I wasn't going to take any photos at all but Zoomer encouraged me to take some.

I haven't been to Nanaimo in ages. It looks nice.

It has had such a bad reputation for years (Surrey-by-the-Sea). I imagine with all of the new growth, it's shedding some of those stereotypes.

Hey Sunsetmountainland! Happy to see you enjoyed the pics of the Garry Oaks in Victoria, and thanks for sharing the info about the altitude range - it makes sense when you think of the conditions that would allow it to thrive in Southern California: “It grows from sea level to an altitude of 690 feet (210 metres) in the northern part of its range, and from 980 to 5,900 ft (300 to 1,800 m) in the south of the range in California”.

Scaper - really nice Nanaimo pictures! It’s looking good in the sun. I’m surprised Nanaimo’s downtown has struggled for decades (when was the last time it was prospering.. maybe the 1950’s?) especially with all the recent growth. It would be great to see it follow a Kelowna path as it’s better located on Vancouver Island than Victoria and it would be nice to have another city that is a significant urban attraction.

Hali87- also nice pics of Halifax in the sun! Thanks for sharing

I’m still working on my Victoria March pics, in the meantime here’s a couple of nice ones from Flickr:

Chasing Highs by Carrie Cole Photography, on Flickr

And no there isn’t a cargo terminal in Victoria, but this ship needed emergency repairs and had to offload the cargo in Victoria and get attended to.

Thanks Zoomer... I was told by someone in the planning department that the taller proposals haven't been viable. Some taller projects that were approved have come back to the city as much shorter buildings with the same amount of units. Sadly. I'm not sure why they'd be viable in Kelowna and not Nanaimo? Strange to me.

Also that photo you took on Mt. Tolmie is just gorgeous. Great shot.

I haven’t been to that part of Surrey or White Rock for years - sure looks like it’s changed a lot. When you’re coming off the ferry or returning to the island, stopping there doesn’t really fit in with the schedule. Nice pics though, thanks for sharing!
