Is it curtains for that marina? That bridge does not look A. high enough to allow passage of boats and B. like a drawbridge.

Either that, or they're going to have some very restrictive height limits. The marina just got a new manager last year, and this article mentions the future bridge, but nothing about a potential closure.

It's a drawbridge - the marina isn't going anywhere.

Ah, that makes more sense. Thank you for the clarification!

Cleveland (Beachwood) -

I seem to be posting a lot about medical projects throughout the Midwest lately. It's not intentional, there's just a ton of medical investments happening right now. University Hospitals is planning to break ground soon on a major expansion to its Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood (announced in 2019). The $236 million expansion will create a new, 216,000 SF tower addition and a 78,000 SF sports medicine complex, among other things. It is expected to bring 1,000+ new jobs to the area -

Cleveland (Glenville Neighborhood) -

The first of many shipping containers have arrived for the planned "ArkiTainer" development in the Glennville Neighborhood, northeast of downtown (near Gordon Park). Led by WRJ Developers, this shipping container project will bring a mix of small and large apartment buildings to the area bounded by E 72nd Street, St. Clair Avenue, E 76th Street, and Detour Avenue -

Not sure if any of these renderings have been shared previously, but at a quick check, I didn't find anything, so here they are -

Man, I’d totally live in a container if it was like under 400 a month. But these kinds of projects always charge astronomical rents, like the tiny house project here in Pittsburgh. Those cost more than normal large apartments.

I know a common technique is spray-on foam insulation, either inside or out. A few inches of that (and some proper HVAC) and it probably works like a charm.

An architect friend of another architect friend built his own house using 2 or 3 of them in upstate New York. Turns out to be not as cheap as people think to build with them, unless you a literally just inhabiting one of the boxes, without trying to modify it with windows, stacking, balconies, etc. It really just becomes more about the cool aesthetic. At least, that was the case for this particular single-person residence designed by an architect

^ Neat project...

I've got family in Solon...I'd like to visit and explore Cleveland developments sometime in the next couple years...

On a side note... Anybody have any baseball team name ideas???

I like Lakers. Or Wild Things. Or Generals since Cleveland was a general. Or how about River Flames

Yeah... something associated with the city's historic industry, or the geography of the area could work. I like alliterative names -

"Cleveland Cliffs" - but making a pro team the name of a company doesn't really fly.

"Cleveland Cuyahogas"? "Cleveland Chinooks"?

You should go with the Generals. That's the team that the Harlem Globetrotters always plays and always beats (the Washington Generals).
Keep up the tradition.

Well, this is pretty cool... and a major game changer.

First look: Cleveland Metroparks releases bold vision for remaking Lake Erie shoreline with recycled river sediment

https://www.cleveland.com/news/2021/...-sediment.html

Quote:
Cleveland Metroparks and other public agencies want to transform part of the city’s East Side lakefront from a hard, mean-looking edge of sheet piling and boulders into tranquil coves and wetlands sheltered by a new offshore “isle.’'

The goal of the project, which could take 15 to 25 years to complete, is to thicken a section of shoreline where Interstate 90 curves so close to the water that the highway had to shut down when hit by 20-foot waves during Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

Elements of the plan include creating a new, 36-acre “isle” offshore, just north of the former FirstEnergy coal-fired power plant, to shelter the shoreline. It would be connected to the mainland with a bridge and trails.

On the mainland side, the plan envisions adding 43 acres to create two new coves with curved shorelines and soft, natural edges between the East 55th Street Marina and Gordon Park.

Wetlands, hills, lawns, numerous trails, and an area to launch paddle craft are all part of the vision, designed by a team led by the Philadelphia-based firm of WRT.

^ It would be awesome if even half of this happened within 20 years. But hopefully more than that happens, and sooner.

First look: Cleveland, Browns owners propose grand park to link downtown to the lakefront, develop land around FirstEnergy stadium

Quote:
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The city of Cleveland and the Browns propose building a broad elevated park that would soar over railroad lines and the Shoreway and expand public access between downtown and the lakefront.

The project envisions a long, gradually sloping green ribbon – about 350 feet wide -- that would connect Mall C downtown to North Coast Harbor and land adjacent to FirstEnergy Stadium.

It would solve a problem Cleveland has wrestled with for more than a century – how to span the gap between the city’s downtown and the waterfront so that residents have access to Cleveland’s biggest asset.

Here's an interesting before & after at the former May Company Building (aka The May), where a once-interior space as been transformed into an outdoor courtyard for residents. The panels are UHPC.

What the image shows is pretty expansive. Is there a timeline? How realistic is this?
