I didn't realize Marina City had a roofdeck..That is awesome.

This has to be pretty close to topping out now, no? Any more crane jumps planned?

See messages on previous page. They were supposed to do the last jump this past weekend but it was postponed due to wind. There is 1 more jump and I think still 100'+ to go.

Two sections of the crane were added yesterday. The last 3 sections will be added this weekend, weather permitting, and the crane will be topped out. Concrete will be topped out in about 6 weeks.

^ So if (5) sections are added at 10' each, that translates to roughly 50 more feet of height for the bldg; unfortunately not 100' per previous post.

Crane sections I believe are more like 20' each, so about 100' crane increase. And I think they had some leeway left from the prioir form top to crane, so I think > 100' on building height still.

Googled crane sections heights I found a few references to the 20' mark. Someone who knows about this stuff can probably chime in.

Also 6 weeks for the final 50' would be pretty slow as per Bobmardier.

20’ is about right. It will be slow because of the mechanical floors, damper tanks, terraces, etc. When the floor plate is no longer typical, things take longer. Still 7 floors in 6 weeks is nothing bad.

My mistake. Thanks for clarifying. Driving downtown today, it’s become clear to me the building will *appear* taller than Trump Tower and Vista from the Kennedy. Yuge impact to the skyline!

It looks absolutely gigantic right now driving down the Kennedy. I was in the area the other day and that whole intersection at Chicago and State feels so much nicer without the parking lot, even as construction is going on.

Any idea on the gallon capacity of the damper tanks?

Took this photo this afternoon. One Chicago is really making its presence known from this vantage point along the lakefront just south of the Diversey Harbor entrance.

Thanks, quagga mussels!

Seriously though, what a fantastic shot.

I know we're supposed to focus on the buildings, but the spring green juxtaposed against that lake michigan blue is pure magic.

Great post - have been waiting for a good farther north side view. Not disappointed!

Even the shorter tower adds to the skyline a bit.

^^ The John Hancock Center is so fat, I am glad to see that it's getting balanced by an ever-increasing number of slim supertalls and near-supertalls, like One Chicago. Hopefully the Tribune Tower addition will happen, as it would bring further balance to the skyline.

Although a tad chunky by today's standards it's still BEYOND Iconic. Hancock has aged beautify (from the outside.) That shape would be built today in a heartbeat.

The 8' floor to ceiling heights on the other hand.... And so many soffits in every unit.

But like Sears it's quite timeless. Water tower place too has aged really well.

... And then there's every beige turd in RN

There's a great view/perspective of this building from Clybourn and Western. I tried to take a picture but I was on the bus.

Crane has jumped again this morning. Not sure how many of the 3 left Bombardier mentioned have already been placed. Hoping for another...
