Such an iconic structure. Though it's time for a new home for the Flames.

True for both. The design is awesome. If the Flames had an alternate temporary space, it could be cool for the Saddledome to get the Climate Pledge Arena treatment: support the roof, dig everything out, go deeper and keep the iconic roofline while getting a more suitable facility for the 21st century.

The roof is the main issue with the Saddledome, it’s rusting from the inside out and it’s deteriorating rather quickly. it’s has to be sealed every once and a while to slow its decay lol.

^ Great Montreal construction photos. It got me wondering, given the historic character of the city, if Montrealers have/had a tendency to complain about things being too tall, or too modern or ugly, like many other places?

Saskatoon in the 1950s, prior to a major revitalization project in the 1960s that saw the removal of the CN downtown rail yards and the construction of Midtown Plaza, Centennial Auditorium, and Idylwyld Drive.

More than 50 years later, Saskatoon is now pursuing its next transformative project on part of this former rail yard to build an arena and entertainment district.

Propaganda Film

Here is a blast from the past, showing St. John's & Newfoundland development in the late sixties. The second half from around 16:00 shows more of St. Johns's mid century modernist buildings (as they looked before they were ruined by bad renos).

Northdale Waterloo 1950s https://www.therecord.com/life/2018/...th-a-gift.html (Northdale Waterloo 2023)

1 of 4 Albert Street runs right to left and Jefferson Avenue angles up from the bottom left corner. At bottom centre, levelling of the ground for Seagram Stadium has just started in this 1957 view. Willison Hall at right and the 1954 arts and sciences building at left were the main Waterloo College campus buildings. WILFRID LAURIER UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES / KITCHENER STAFF GRMP

3 of 4 Within a couple of years of its 1957 construction, Seagram Stadium fits comfortably into the neighbourhood. Jefferson Avenue has become Seagram Drive and the main campus sprouts more buildings. WILFRID LAURIER UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS AND RECREATION / KITCHENER STAFF GRMP
