Well what are they going to do then when there wind blown precipitation of any kind (such as in a hurricane or nor'easter) occurs? Such occurrences aren't rare in Lower Manhattan.

Wouldn't it be good practice that in such a situation they have some form of makeshift way of shielding the interior of the building or that the interior materials are designed to be more durable than usual?

I don’t know, make a door at the top of the stairs. I’ll tell you what they shouldn’t do. They shouldn’t build some permanent or even semi-permanent barrier which would destroy that striking corner entrance. This would disrupt the aesthetic vision of the architects and make a near-perfect piece of design decidedly imperfect.

Looking through this guideline document for 5 World Trade Center, on page 198 the Performing Arts Center is referred to as the "Performing Arts Center Visitor Orientation & Education Center".

The PAC has sometimes been referred to as the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center but not by the designation in that guideline document for 5 World Trade Center. This might be the unofficial full name of the building.

The orientation and education terms in that name could be referring to how the Performing Arts Center will incorporate themes from 9/11 and the processes that followed in the wake of 9/11 into some of the works presented there.

Maybe something like those make shift AquaFence flood barriers or a temporarily constructed, tightly fastened tarp reinforced with steel netting could work. If water gets into the structure, considering the wooden paneling of the ceiling it's going to cause a mess and a lot of potential rot. That would mainly happen with southerly or southwesterly winds and precipitation, but Lower Manhattan is no stranger to such conditions in nor'easters and hurricanes.

Maybe there is an online document pdf somewhere detailing what they plan to do to secure the open southwestern entrance in the event of nor'easters, tropical storms and hurricanes.

Thanks to Mackensen on New York Yimby forums for finding a close up cam of the construction of the PAC.

Since December 15, 2021 there has been additional construction taking place at the roof level. This appears to be some sort of paneling overlain on top of the concrete roof.

The zoomed in cam available at the linked URL shows this. To change the date to view how construction has progressed, edit the YYYY/MM/DD date portion of the URL.

More equipment continues to be moved to the roof. No sign of more marble cladding or the beginning of black granite installation at the base.

Classic Larry value engineering. It's his trade mark. Everything built in the new complex always has something missing.

Found another link to a live cam overlooking the memorial and PAC site, which better shows the east plaza of 1 WTC and a north facing view towards the PAC
https://archives2.earthcam.com/archi...hive4/live.jpg

Apparently the fences blocking off the east plaza entrance went down, but there's no pictures from tourists taken from there yet so it might still not be open to the public. Western section of the PAC appears to have been poured over and paved with concrete, with tractor vehicles, construction cranes and delivery materials being gathered in this area.

Latest image from today (February 23, 2022) shows progress on the roof with placement of blue, black and white insulation and drainage protection boards material (according to TKDV on New York Yimby forums) and marble pavers. Some work still seems incomplete on covering the northern edge of the roof compared to the other sides of the roof.

Possible work for paving of the north end garage entrance(s) to the PAC might be in process.

Still no sign of the black granite cladding for the pedestal base of the building. Visible steel netting framework set up around the base of the PAC might be an indication of when that will start. That stage hasn't been reached yet.

Imo it's better that way. The green circle on the roof looked out of place and interrupted the otherwise uninterrupted flat roof surface. The absence of the interruption of the green circle makes the roof appear more massive, similar to how the old twin towers' uninterrupted vertically extending flat facade made them look more formidable. What is more regrettable imo is that the dark colored stone obelisk planned on the southeast edge of the PAC is no longer present in the newer renders. That would have made for a nice and unique landmark on the new WTC site.

Work on roof paneling placement has progressed since late February 2022 but is still incomplete on the east portion of the roof.

Triangular and rectangular pits to the southeast of the building have become apparent. A few days before, these pits were filled with red and green pigment, respectively, of some kind.

Now these pits are once again bare and have no pigment showing.

Not much much else notable, significant changes have been seen.

However, a concrete pour at street level to the north of the building has been in progress as of the late morning and early afternoon, Friday March 11, 2022.

It is possible this is for the street level below the north terrace (where an outdoor restaurant is planned) or for a portion of the north entry roadway leading into the parking garage.

Also here is an article from February 2022 that talks about the hours that the PAC will be open and what it will offer to visitors.
https://downtownmagazinenyc.com/pere...g-arts-center/

Additionally there is this detail on the Port Authority of NY and NJ site officialworldtradecenter.com:
Quote:

Overview

Currently under construction, The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center will bring theater, music, dance, and film to the World Trade Center and Lower Manhattan. The center will be a 129,000-square-foot, cultural center with multiple performance spaces and a public cafe and lounge, located at the intersection of Vesey, Fulton, and Greenwich Streets.

Once complete, a public plaza between the Center and One World Trade Center will accommodate pop-up outdoor performances and seating for the campus.

Construction started in 2019 after the temporary WTC PATH Station entrance that occupied this location was closed, and the new WTC PATH Station in the Oculus opened.
With the recent opening of the east plaza of 1 WTC pretty much confirmed (https://tribecacitizen.com/2022/02/2...ting-a-decade/), more elements of the old WTC site are coming into place.

Pop-up outdoor performances and seating were also present on the east plaza of the original WTC site (including up to the last day that the towers were still standing).

Never mind about the first part, the seemingly permanent rooftop access block on the northeast corner of the roof that is visible from street level, the undisguised heating and cooling vents and the davits sticking out on the western and northern edges of the roof already interrupt what could have been the appearance of a consistent flat roof design.

It seems that work on the roof is either being finished or being paused, while work on the entry stairway (which appears to be overlain with pink netting) on the southern edge of the PAC and work on the north entrance to the PAC are picking up.

March 29, 2022 12:15 pm eastern

March 31, 2022 12:15 pm eastern

Lifts have been attached to the davits on the western and northern sides of the roof.

Some white tarp or sheets are being lain over the bottoms and edges of the rectangular and triangular pits to the southeast of the PAC.

Instead of a white wall, construction netting is once again apparent behind the outdoor construction elevator on the eastern side of the building. This elevator is also being disassembled. A lot of work on the interior is still ongoing.

New pictures of the facade and interior construction were posted March 29, 2022 by Sciame Construction on facebook and instagram:

One of the northern entrances to the Vehicular Security Center (VSC) parking garage underneath the PAC appears to be taking shape.

Yesterday the rectangular and triangular pits were filled with soil.

Also yesterday, the metal clamps for the steel bracing that will hold up the marble wall installation were put in place.

Today, the steel bracing for the marble wall installation has been put in place across the remainder of the east face of the PAC. Work on the entry stairway also continues.

Concrete is now being poured for another surrounding curb that outlines one of the northern entrance parking garage entrances.

Work on the entry stairway and what seems to be wooden bracing and fitting of stair panels is continuing.

Another davit crane on the northwest edge of the PAC roof was installed on the morning of April 19, 2022.

Marble wall installation on the east facade finally appears to be complete.

Also seen is the installation of black lining (possibly padding) for the curb for one of the northern garage entrances to the PAC.

Earlier on Friday April 22, 2022, the concrete for the southwest entry stairway was poured. The wooden concrete form on the stairway was removed today.

While not officially announced yet, the first paneling of black granite or the last paneling before the installation of the black granite on the base of the PAC might be starting now, and appears visible on a portion of the south facing base of the PAC on these two cams: https://archives2.earthcam.com/archi...hive4/live.jpg, https://archives2.earthcam.com/archi...hive5/live.jpg
The inside of the ADA accessible entrance also no longer shows exposed concrete.

Here are some pictures showing how the top portion of the PAC is already looking well on its way to completion.

According to this link, the PAC might be scheduled to open as soon as early 2023:
https://downtownny.com/news/whats-ne...-2022-updates/

As with other PAC buildings, it appears from the renderings of the finished building that the stairway entrance will be protected from the outside elements with a glass wall.
