The Zu is up to 4 or 5 storeys now. I was driving by and didn't count or take a picture, but it's size looks great on the street.

The former Manitoba Housing site on Mayfair seems to have been cleared out, it looks like they're prepping the site for something. Anyone know what's happening? Fencing is wrapped with LD BUILDERS banners.

LD builders is the company building the tower at the end of Mayfair. I believe they have just temporarily rented the MB housing lot for laydown/equipment space for that ongoing project.

Ah, shit. Too good to be true.

I wish something could be done to force the province to either shit or get off the pot with that location. It is an absolutely huge site, incredibly located, and could easily be built quite high.

Fixed it. I could see that site being 25 floors. Perfect spot for high density.

320 River for sale, $1.3 mil, lot only, proposed building plans in ad

"320 River Avenue is an infill site that is approved for high
density in Winnipeg’s trendy Osborne Village neighbourhood.
The site has been cleared of any buildings and is prepared
for a 5-storey, 24-suite apartment with 24 parking stalls to
be built on it (though it is available for modified plans if
proposed)"

sigh... another building that'll never be built. what a bummer.

i presume it's only a matter of time before we see the same for that lot next to Pulse that spent years in variances, appeals, etc. A lot of projects that were barely feasible before inflation/rising borrowing costs/etc and probably aren't feasible anymore

That site already got its variances and approval sorted, right? That kind of certainty must be somewhat attractive to a prospective buyer.

^ I went to the CentrePlan2050 information session the city held at the Hydro building a few weeks back and talked to one of the folks involved in planning active transportation stuff. He was mostly there to talk about new bike lanes downtown, but when I brought up connections to Osborne Village and the proposed bridge, he didn't sound very optimistic about it happening any time soon (though of course he didn't really say either way).

post on an Osborne Village facebook group says the old Basil's has been subdivided into two units and new businesses will be opening soon. Fireside design was recently posting about being on a site visit there so should be something nice.

dividing it is a good idea....part of the issue with that space has always been its size....

^^^ it probably can't be developed now because the standing water in the pit is the breeding ground to some endangered mosquito species or something.
