Whoa! Neiman Marcus Is Officially Closing Its Massive New Hudson Yards Store

Luxury department store Neiman Marcus is officially shutting its Hudson Yards location, a little over a year after its flashy opening...A physical location in Hudson Yards is no longer an ideal space for us, given the preponderance of restaurants and future office space in that mall,” a spokesperson told CNBC.

The global reaction to COVID has basically pushed trends in retail and remote working that would have taken another decade and forced it all in 6 months.

Basic retail will mostly be done online if it can, luxury shopping will still exist as people do that as an activity but general retail for basic items was going away and will go away.

As for offices based on what I have read something like 1/3 of office jobs can be done remotely. Again some industries (tech and Finance) can be done probably 80% online while others require people to be in person, still. overall its close to 1/3.

So figure about 1/3 of all retail and office space is uneeded

I am going to be sad if I can’t go to a store once in a while.

I’m getting cabin fever right now and I’m not sure if working and shopping from home everyday really makes people happy.
