Art-Deco Masterpiece 70 Pine Street Opens, Offering Two Months Free Rent

Quote:
It’s not everyday that one has the chance to live in one of the world’s finest skyscrapers. Details of The Pinnacle at The Woolworth Tower Residences have yet to be revealed, but for those of us still saving to buy a piece of history, the rentals at 70 Pine Street await. Soaring to a cloud-popping height of 66 stories and 952 feet, the building is essentially downtown’s Empire State Building and was the world’s third tallest building upon completion in 1932.

Designed by Clinton & Russell, Holton & George for the utilities conglomerate Cities Service company (later known as CITGO), the tower was sold to the American International Group (AIG) in 1976, where they held their offices until the last recession. Breathing new life into the landmarked building, Rose Associates is re-conceiving the commercial icon into 644 rental apartments, a 137-room extended stay hotel, and 35,000 square feet of retail space. And for a limited time, Rose is offering two months free rent or one month free rent and paid broker’s fee for newly-signed leases. The homes are divided into the city, tower, and penthouse collections and as we await construction to fully wrap up, 17 apartments are currently available throughout its mid-level city collection floors.

If I had the means, this is where I would hang my hat in Manhattan. As nice as all of these new residential towers are, this one is particularly special.

Yes, I have a lot of love for the classics, the buildings that paved the way for the outstanding skyline we have, even as it evolves into something greater still.

I also like how the classics are being repositioned to function in the modern era, as many have outlived their uses as office space, especially in the new Dowtown. There is a new life and energy, even as others prepare to share that same space on the skyline (45 Broad).

This building was a bit far away from Wall Street, which makes it less famous, leading to the eventual conversion into residential units.

With good design, buildings like Equitable Building can still be used as office space. Zoning law greatly affects the freedom of architecture in NYC.

The conversion to residential was done b/c it's no longer practical for commercial tenants. It's a plenty famous building that served as the HQ for one of (for a long time 'the') the world's largest insurance company.

And it's just a short block from Wall Street. I used to work at 60 Wall and this tower was just across the street. You could throw something from 60 Wall and hit this building.

Were you there back in the JP Morgan days or after DB moved in? I haven't been in 60 Wall in maybe 5 years, but it's a cool building. The direct subway access was a huge bonus.

I think this tower is so underrated. At night the spire is probably the best-looking of any tower, anywhere.

Years ago, I had a direct office view of 70 Pine. I miss that view.
