I think they will, given that big-influence supports it...namely UPMC with their brand new hospital right next to it... and that it is a very dangerous stretch of roadway, insufficient for 4 high-speed travel lanes. It's been on the "to-do" list for a long time here... like 25 years or so.

Ideally, Blvd of Allies & 579/Crosstown Blvd and 19/Liberty Bridge would not be accessible from the /Parkway East (funnel all to the Point, as gwho noted).

Construction has been well underway for a couple years maybe. The cap is built, and I believe the summer construction season will see the beginning of building of the surface-level stuff atop the cap.

Wow, that is a fantastic re-do of Blvd of the Allies! Much needed.... it's far too narrow to be a high speed freeway like it is now, and does nothing for the neighborhood. Imagining that wide, well-landscaped pedestrian area running the entire length of the cliff. Killer views up there akin to a stroll along Mt Washington. I'd guess it would completely change the use of the buildings butting up against it....opening up to the street instead of blocking it out.

I agree on Blvd of the Allie - it's also a strange dynamic with a pseudo highway essentially in a neighborhood with all of those side streets where cars can turn on it.

Big news from the Apsinwall Riverfront Park! The Allegheny Valley Railroad has agreed to sell the Brilliant Line to the park! It will cost roughly 3.5 million and perhaps another 10 to build a trail.

Announcement:
https://aspinwallriverfrontpark.org/...-your-support/

Brilliant Line FAQ
https://aspinwallriverfrontpark.org/...rilliant-line/

This would an amazing addition to Pittsburgh's river/rail trail system. It would connect many new neighborhoods to that trail system and provide a safe route where now there is none.

Perhaps the most spectacular part will be the historic bridges. Imagine riding over those stone arches overlooking washington blvd and then crossing the Allegheny on a dedicated bike/pedestrian bridge. Our growing trail system has almost reached the tipping point where the masses start seeing it as an asset rather than a waste of money. Drone footage of people crossing these bridges on a sunny afternoon could be that tipping point.

Another building caught on fire on Carson Street, doesnt appear to be as bad and destructive as the last one, hopefully this building survives. Some crappy cell phone photos I got.

It went before the ZBA a few months ago, with some minor redesigns. IIRC the ZBA told them they had to go through the process again, since it was now a new developer, and the previously granted variances had lapsed. The new presentation has yet to arrive.

That's a shame about all these SS fires. Great pics of the action though Photolith.

This artist loft building is finally pretty much done in Braddock, took these this afternoon. What's cool too is that the sign at night has the neon lit up.

And there's a couple of other abandoned buildings along the main drag that have scaffolding on them so hopefully thats good news.

Braddock overall is looking worse over the worse. Every year there seems to be more and more and more abandoned houses popping up and then therefor more and more junky vacant lots after they get torn down. Just looked it up, Braddock is obviously still losing population but not at as high of a rate as it historically has been.

1880 3,310 156.6%
1890 8,561 158.6%
1900 15,654 82.9%
1910 19,357 23.7%
1920 20,879 7.9%
1930 19,329 −7.4%
1940 18,326 −5.2%
1950 16,488 −10.0%
1960 12,337 −25.2%
1970 8,795 −28.7%
1980 5,634 −35.9%
1990 4,682 −16.9%
2000 2,912 −37.8%
2010 2,159 −25.9%
2019 (est.) 2,105 [2] −2.5%

I mean, I wouldnt want to live in Braddock, poverty is through the roof and so is crime and unfortunately, its just a little too disconnected from the city for it to ever come back and gentrify.

I don't know if anyone in this thread has been around long enough to remember Pittsburgh SSP'er MrHerodotus's great old photo threads of Pittsburgh neighborhoods? Unfortunately he has passed away and there is a memorial thread here: https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=246454

Here is a link to his many photo threads: https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sea...archid=2237902

Rest in peace.

EDIT: Sadly I just noticed that all the photos in his threads are just broken links now. Here is a link to his Pbase photos: https://pbase.com/step2me/urbanstreetscapes

I know, that one hit me hard too. I had many back and forth discussions with him on this site and he was one of my favorite forumers.

Yeah, for whatever reason he never really posted in the Pittsburgh development threads - This one or the two that preceded it but for a few years he was active in other parts of the site such as City Photos.

I didn't really deal with Herodotus here, but I did on the other forum. Sad to hear he's gone...I didn't think he was that old.

Yeah, I was surprised to learn that he was 62. Obviously that’s not old, but for some reason I was thinking he was maybe only a couple years older than me
