^What is the little building across Clarendon supposed to be? Is that rendering filler, or is that some sort of real project?

Also, is it just me or is this project trying to look like a sister to the 40 year old 4343 Clarendon?

It is right north of Trump Tower, where that hotel was going to go I believe which Reilly blocked citing some 1970s law where it said residential should be built there

So this building is going here, fronting Wabash?

For some reason I pictured it slightly further east, directly on top of the former McDonalds.

^^ One of the more expensive Valet Parking areas in the city (expensive for the city to build).

Oh that's right. And whats-his-face on here was all upset because the city was losing a cheap place for his kids to urinate or something. I remember now.

The building permit for the buildout and renovation was issued something like a month ago.

Yeah, this is one case where flat planes for the envelope look better than a variegated surface. The mish-mash of different colors and lines works better in two dimensions (and with what looked to be all brick); it kind of made for a compressed, abstract geometry. Now there are going to be a lot more cut lines, by the looks of it.

This is a visual manifestation of Chicago's asinine zoning process. You have a great site and a great opportunity in a great location, and it gets whittled away to a bullshit squat slab on top of a massive two-story super structure. It will probably turn out well (faith in HP, here), but it's incredibly irritating.

And in re of 4343: totally agree. And with the site plan of Pensacola Place.

They also got rid of the pilotis on the ground floor that made the tower float gracefully.
