The Saudi's couldn't even finish their tower in Jeddah, which is much less than 1 km wide, and we expect them to complete this monstrosity that is 110 miles wide at a similar height? I think we have a greater chance of establishing a colony on Jupiter than having this thing completed as planned.

I'd have a lot more faith in this being built if it was divided up into a hundred or more segments. The cost of pushing sand along the entire length of the proposed building comes mostly from tens of millions in fuel costs. AFAIK, the developer also own the fuel. This feels right now like a con and/or money laundering scheme.

This is like an extreme version of higher allowable densities along major access routes leading to those common linear skylines. The height should allow every kilometre or two to be a walkable neighbourhood with housing, shops, employment. It's just it's a completely artificial environment like living in a shopping mall.

There's something confining and disturbingly two-dimensional about this linear world. I can't explain why exactly...but I feel like I would develop mental problems if I had to live in it, despite it still being hundreds of feet across, I'm assuming.

Isn't this more of a proposal vs something that's actually being constructed? Even if this were being made, why build a city IN A STRAIGHT LINE?? The architecture looks like something out of Blade Runner (which is nice), but this looks like it'd take TRILLIONS to create a brand new 110-mile long city (which is bad).

I wonder if this is all about a fear the ruling Saudis have about burning up in the desert, because there are climate projections about the hottest regions of the world seriously becoming uninhabitable for human life eventually. It is a -thing- in the region. UAE is making it rain in the summer to negate the tremendous heat, and now other countries around the gulf are following suit as well. Maybe Saudis are just planning to retreat into an 110-mile long air conditioned sanctuary. I mean they have another ambitious project going along those lines which is not so wacky. A massive greening/irrigation project throughout Riyadh, which does seem more practical for cooling the local environment at least.

This is an absurd idea, there is a reason why cities dont exist in lines.

On the small chance this ever gets built it will be a disaster.

The other misconception "The world is growing too fast" When the opposite is happening. Population is leveling off and entering decline in most of the world. We probably wont even hit 10 billion at this rate.
