Seems to be they are moving out. They currently occupy 110 N Wacker and have announced plans to move to the Apparel Center. But maybe 300 S Riverside is their temporary or even permanent destination?

Sounds like the confusion isn't related to whether they're moving out, but whether they're moving to Apparel Mart (as reported) or to 300 S. Riverside.

Not sure it matters for this development either way...

Moving may not take very long either. When my company moved last year we spent one month de-junking, then 4.5 days filling up packing crates (we were sent home Friday noon). Monday morning, all our stuff was in the new building and that was that.

Depending on the size of the company/office and how much manpower can be thrown at it, that is typically how it works.

I bartend at a rooftop bar downtown on the weekends, and I bike by the GGP building every night.. The lights were on the other night and I noticed that almost all of the floors were barren/cleared out. I know we have a little ways to go, but it appears that a lot of stuff has been moved out.. at least on the river-side of the building.

I disagree, the base on the "concept" seems totally unnecessary and the vertical lines created by the current plan's setbacks along the river are subtle and very attractive. I like the current design of this building almost as much as I like 150 N Riverside and that's saying something.

Typo. I meant to say I like the massing of the current proposal way more than the concept, but that the concept did slightly more along the riverfront. Though, looking at the two more closely, I'm not sure if the concept did anymore for the riverfront than it simply did it differently. I guess I liked the open-air bank a bit better. Anyway, the current proposal is superior to the concept in aggregate in an regard.

son, chicago was building boxes back when houston was still wearing diapers.

chicago taught the entire freaking planet how to build boxes in the first place.

that said, the current design for this project is "boxy" in that it incorporates a lot of right angles, but by no definition of the word "box" that i'm familiar with, is it actually a box.

the set backs on the north elevation along with the serrated western facade that follows the non-orthagonal line of the river both preclude the massing from being a literal box.

So, the one that Steely posted in his last post here is the one they're going with? I hope so because I like that one.

Gensler is a solid firm, but a lot of their buildings really do look a lot alike. That original Gensler proposal up there really does look like any number of other buildings. It's almost an exact copy of Austin's Fairmont Hotel that they did here.

yes.

that is the Goettsch design that is going to be built.

the Gensler design posted at the top of this page was just an early (and previously unseen) competing concept that obviously wasn't selected by the developer.
