200 East 83rd Rises: Robert A.M. Stern-designed tower to be among Upper East Side's tallest

Quote:
The Naftali Group in partnership with Rockefeller Group have cleared a corner of walk-up buildings on the Upper East Side to make way for a soaring and stately condominium tower designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects. Anticipated to stand 35 floors and 489 feet high (from street level to pinnacle), the venture at 200 East 83rd Street will become the seventh-tallest in the neighborhood behind 520 Park Avenue, Trump Palace, The Belaire, Bristol Plaza, One East River Place, and the newly-finished 180 East 88th Street.

The site is found at the corner of Third Avenue and East 83rd Street, an atypical residential block a short walk to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, and the Lexington Avenue line's 86th Street subway station. In July 2019, the developers secured $176 million in financing to begin work on the 250,000-square-foot project. According to The Real Deal, the developers finalized the acquisition of the site from Muss Development and the Aryeh family in March for $167 million. As of mid-October 2020, the concrete frame has reached the eighth floor, clearing the height of adjacent walk-ups, and well on its way to becoming the preeminent high-rise in the area.

“I don’t buy that NY is dead”: Naftali, Seinfeld team up on billboard
Builder adorns Madison Ave project with comedian’s message of defiance

November 17, 2020

Quote:
Miki Naftali got some unexpected partners for his latest venture.

The residential developer has joined forces with comedian Jerry Seinfeld and the New York Times on a marketing maneuver to bolster enthusiasm for New York City.

On Friday night, a crane erected a giant billboard on the side of the Naftali Group’s under-construction condominium at 1045 Madison Avenue featuring an image of Seinfeld’s ode to the city published in the Times in August.

Seinfeld penned his op-ed in response to a LinkedIn post a few weeks earlier by comedy club owner James Altucher that proclaimed “NYC IS DEAD FOREVER” and explained why he, and most people he knew, were moving away.

In his rebuttal, the comedian berated Altucher as “some putz on LinkedIn wailing and whimpering,” and issued a rallying cry to New Yorkers.

“We’re going to keep going with New York City if that’s all right with you. And it will sure as hell be back,” wrote Seinfeld. “Because of all the real, tough New Yorkers who, unlike you, loved it and understood it, stayed and rebuilt it.”
Quote:
In a phone interview, Naftali said the idea for the billboard came out of a brainstorming session with his daughter Danielle, the manager of marketing and design at Naftali Group, over holiday signage to put up at the Madison Avenue project.

“First of all, I love Jerry and, second of all, I agree with everything he said,” said Naftali. “I just don’t buy this story about ‘New York City is dead.’”

Yeah, this is exceptional for precast. Stern and team deliver again!

I thought Beckford House and Beckford Tower on Second Avenue had limestone.

If I'm elected mayor I promise to write into law a mandate requiring all new buildings to be designed by Mr. Stern.
