I love HAIF. If I haven’t logged in for a couple days and go back to “goin up” I’ll have a ton of “unread” threads and a lot of that will be pics of projects that hasn’t changed or moved dirt since the last update.

Wasn’t asking HAIF to change. Was simply saying I like this forum for weekly updates on major projects. I’ll still visit HAIF almost daily.

Wow, such a transformation, and still room to grow around the stadium.

Agreed. A few supertall resi towers would do well here.

Why has the next tallest not been built since the 1982?
Does Downtown Houston have height restrictions?

Because this is a city that does not like to take chances.

I think it's somewhere near the 1010' mark... I understand that the chase tower was shortened somewhat from 1012' or so due to being in the flight path to Hobby Airport... perhaps someone more familiar with this can chyme in.

I had heard that Hines wanted Texas Commerce Tower (Chase) to be 80 stories but settled on 75 because of FAA restrictions. Planes rarely fly directly over downtown, anyway.

Probably more a function of demand as this is Texas.

Demand for SFH and non high rise apartments aren't in doubt, demand for breaking height records is. Well at least outside of Austin.

Houston has built several 600-700ft office buildings since the major boom of the 80s because that's where the demand is. The only hope would be a mixed use tower, but I'd still be surprised if Houston built a "new tallest".

The bigger issue with downtown Houston is we have this huge inventory of office space all built in the 70s/80s. Some of the trophy towers are getting remodeled but most towers aren't so far. There's been a shift of tenants from the older office buildings to the newer towers. I count 7 new office buildings completed or under construction that didn't exist before 2000:

Agreed. It's going to be quite a while before we see that.
