Phoenix is a terribly designed city.
Also yeah if there's already another thread one of them should be locked.

Both.

But this one was the worst:

. But I'm not even going to get into it, it's not worth rehashing again for the 50th time. It's just nonsense and untrue.

Blanket condescending (partially due to jealousy for some) useless and ignorant comments about Phoenix are a forum staple and have been for years. It's just tiring and dumb. What cities in the US aren't "terribly designed" (by the utopian impossible standards of this forum), save for a few? Sorry Phoenix doesn't have a million 500+ footers and perfect pre-war transit-oriented neighborhoods everywhere.

Speaking of this, what's the status of the new tallest? Which I believe is 500+.

I think it's called the Astra.

Yes, Astra. A new tallest at 535 ft. Latest rumblings is that it is expected to begin construction Q3 of this year.

This P&C thread isn't very well updated by us Phoenix forumers. Possibly giving the feeling to some that there isn't much happening here.

Phoenix is one of those cities I was SURE I wouldn’t like ... but I liked it!

Dallas was another such city.

Instead of bitching, you should be celebrating when cities make progress.

Arizona’s tallest building remains empty as its future remains unknown

Still empty... why no plans for a residential conversion?

I'm not sure what the plans are going to be, but there are these renderings which may or may not be anything to look forward to.

Still blows my mind when people can't be bothered to use anything newer than an at least 5 year old aerial for their renderings.

Phoenix, like Dallas, is a fast-growing and very large city that can’t seem to get much traction in terms of downtown highrise construction.

Dallas does better than it gets credit for.

3D Model

I ready posted this on the Phoenix Development thread but I’ll post it here too. I’ve been working on a 3d model of Downtown Phoenix’s new high rises. I tried to be as accurate with the designs and heights of the buildings. I’m currently working on the southern half of downtown.

This model has under construction, approved, and proposed high rises

Green = Under Construction
Blue = Approved
Yellow = Proposed

Quick Update

Here’s a quick update on my model. Completed the southern half of Downtown and currently making my way into Midtown.

Didn't realize it was already approved.

It'd be nice if they got started.

Does anyone know if Valley Metro has plans to extend light rail or some other sort of high capacity rapid transit to ASU West, ACU, and Thunderbird Medical Center. I know there was talk of that some years back, but if my memory serves, that didn't make it into the T2050 plan that voters approved in 2018. Seems like kind of a no-brainer to me.

Recent photo (courtesy of forumer locolife) showing a portion of downtown and midtown - view looking north. It shows the densification, especially in the northern part of downtown. Just off screen to the right are 3 additional residential towers under construction (approx 25 stories each). I believe there are currently 5 tower cranes downtown (not sure about how many in midtown) with a few projects under construction recently that will add about 5 more I'd imagine.

Cool. Phoenix sure has grown a lot since I was last there.

Just to clarify, the Central Station project is not where the axis of the two light rail lines will be once the south and west extensions are completed?
