I don't know how much more space they have there that isn't built on already. The parking lot next to Roberts and there's some underutilized space in the Pennovation Center.

When I was at Penn before moving to CHOP a lot of the talk was about building out down Market St. for more space.

It really is a singularly amazing medical complex--the largest in the world as quoted above. But you're right that the Penn Medicine/CHOP complex is somewhat reminiscent of it--in its own small way.
Maybe I should have specified when I lived there in 2004!

They'd basically have to expand to an area the size of all of University City, with a hundred or more buildings, to approach the size and scope of the Texas Medical Center. It would be as if ALL of the medical institutions in and around Philly--Penn, CHOP, Jefferson, Temple, Cooper, Fox Chase, Wills, VA, etc.--plus all of the medical, nursing, and dental schools, were located together in one 2-square-mile neighborhood. That's basically what Texas Medical Center is and, again, it's truly unique in the world.

Love it! I’m sure this one will have 2 or 3 tower cranes.

From a distance, it looks like we have a tower crane in place here!

Yes, I don't have a picture, but I can confirm a crane is up now.

Does anyone understand the construction plan/progress here?

I've seen some comments about them still needing to do some demo, so I thought maybe they were just doing the underground parking, but now the tower crane would suggest they're going vertical. Not sure how you do that without the entire footprint ready.

I'm not sure. The Wood building is being demolished now, and some concrete pours for the garage are happening

Bottom layer of the adjacent underground structure is coming along. Wood is pretty well gutted now.

Second tower crane coming in. Wood is down to the 4th (of 6 plus a mechanical level on top) floor although most of the steel frame for the 5th floor is still being disassembled.

You can see the tips of BOTH cranes behind CHOP Buerger Center (to the right of CHOP Hub)

Wood is totally deconstructed to the floor of the ground level. Not steel left above ground.

Looks like they're starting on the core. Also looks like the basement of Wood will be incorporated into the new building.

Here's a visualization of the demo and construction timeline (starting at 1:32): Demolition of Wood Center in Winter 2023, with New Tower construction beginning in 2024, so seems like they're right on schedule!

This is the 'tallest' building u/c right now, no? It's going to be a beast and I look forward to seeing it rise.

Yup, this and then The Mark. Pretty cool to have two 400+ footers in university city right now. Will have a big impact. Glad they got funded before interest rates got so high.
