I'm really glad they kept the spiraling steps on the west face. They could have very easily VE'd that to just one flat setback and I don't think any of us would have been too surprised. Disappointed, yes, but not surprised.

Same. Though they did seem to get rid of one setback on the north face compared to this which I think was the last rendering: https://chicagoyimby.com/2020/12/one...countdown.html

Any idea which day? I live across the street and have been working on a time lapse video for the past 2 years… I’d love to not miss the crane coming down!

It is supposed to start Tuesday and take a couple weeks to get down (this activity is very weather dependent). State Street will be completely closed once it is lowered down far enough for the mobile crane to pick it.

Great, thanks for the info. I’ll post the full construction time lapse in about two weeks then!

^^ Love the spider cranes - that unit will fold up so small it can fit through a standard doorway.

I disagree, the champagne-colored metal is a great contrast to the glass, it would have been too washed out if it was any type of grey color. It's the right amount of color because it's a relatively narrow detail in a majority glass facade.

Honestly you wouldn’t see it from afar cause it actually look silver.

PSA - They have lowered the crane to about 15% of the way down it looks like from my view for those interested in checking it out.

Indeed, bravo JDL. The speed of this project was remarkable. I hope it is as successful as No 9 Walton and their next one can be even more ambitious!

I agree with that. This is easily my favorite new skyline addition from this construction megacycle so far.
