Yeah, 5 thousand homes burned to the ground in that fire. I was in high school but remember it like yesterday.

It's really interesting how there is such a mix of styles now as a result of owners building to their taste and not based on a development company's designs...

Here's an interesting house in Belvedere, Marin County. The physical location is lovely, reduced to $23,500,000.

That's^ lovely. I love Georgian style homes. It sorta reminds me of a house up here in Marin County that sold like 6 years ago...Looked it up. It's much smaller and has a much smaller lot, but they remind of each other.

440 Golden Gate Avenue
Belvedere CA 94920

Last Sold Price: $47.5 Million
5bd/7.5bth
Area: 9,235 sq ft
Lot Size: 0.94 acres

the house is fairly unassuming from the street.

And now for something completely different:

Median Detroit home prices!

Metro Detroit:
May 2020: $224,225
May 2021: $277,225 (+23.6%)

Wayne County:
May 2020: $132,000
May 2021: $175,000 (+32%)

Detroit (city):
May 2020: $41,000
May 2021: $65,000 (+58%)

Link to source:
Median Sales Price of Existing Homes in Metro Detroit Jumps 23% to $277,225 in May

Looking at Zillow's list of single family homes currently for sale, here is break down on price:
up to $9,999: 273 *
$10,000 to $49,999: 280
$50,000 to $99,999: 420
$100,000 to $199,999: 176
$200,000 to $299,999: 43
$300,000 to $399,999: 31
$400,000 to $499,999: 13
$500,000 to $699,999: 17
$700,000 to $999,999: 11
$1 million and up: 4 **

* Many of these are owned by the Detroit Land Bank and have a starting bid of $1,000 and require fixing the house and a commitment to paying taxes for five years.

** The most expensive home for sale is the 15,379 sq.ft. former residence of Sebastian S. Kresge, founder of SS Kresge's and K-Mart, at $3.26 million.

Photo credit: I took this picture in 2006 (flickr).

I highly recommend reviewing the 99 photos of the Kresge mansion on its Zillow page (large rooms, 14 bedrooms, lots of old school craftsmanship in interior, and 4 acres of landscaped grounds).

I think the columns are formed around the glass which leaves that ugly gap. That shit's tacky as hell. I hope it doesn't become a trend.

Here's a mansion that recently sold in Pacific Heights. This part of Pacific Heights is called the Gold Coast and more recently has also adopted the nickname of Billionaire's Row.

anyhow,

2920 Broadway Street
San Francisco, CA 94115

7 bedrooms
5 bathrooms
House Size 11,455 sq ft
Lot Size: 7,871 sq ft

Sold April 26,2021 for $43,500,000

From the street you dont see much...

A courtyard upon entry from the street

From above, it makes much more sense...

Plop this down in Beverly Hills and move that decimal point another spot over ($32.6 million) and it'll fit right in!

10 years ago Detroit was so cheap that a Canuck snapped up one of those guilded age mansions for under 500k.

Beautiful property. It's on a private gated street that is a dead end. IMO, if I'm going to pay $5.5 million for a house, I'd rather it be set in a neighborhood instead of a dead end spur off of an arterial road.
