FYI, the 15-Day forecasts put out by the weathernetwork are complete garbage.

Most weather models only output RELIABLE forecasts for about 48 hours.
Anything in the later-half of a 5-day planner is pretty suspect, and you usually see a change in those day's forecast as you get closer.

MAYBE the model is predicting a cooling trend for those 15 days, but forecasts out that far are absolutely riddled with model error.

If you don't believe me, then keep checking that 15-day forecast every day.
It will likely be very different tomorrow -- and the next, etc.

Most of the snow is gone in the 14-day trend...

Haha the 14 day trend has completly changed and is now following the average! Thanks Weathernetwork for highlighting the futility of providing a 14 day forcast.

I assumed they at least had some basis for such a large deviation from the average... once again i have given the weather man too much credit.

Well i made a thread of this on the Canada section but no one there seems to understand how official climatology works and why i use airports and not private weather stations in the downtown cores, any ways here is Vancouver airports average high, low, number of days above 10 degrees and number of days below 0 degrees (C) for November:

Vancouver - High 10.5, Low 5.9, above ten = 19, at and below zero = 1 Highest temp = 14, lowest temp = 0

Abbotsford (official airport) High 10.5, Low 5, above 10 = 19, at or below zero = 2 Highest temp = 15, lowest temp = -1

Since I work the nightshift, I sleep during the morning/afternoons. Was I dreaming or today (Dec 7) did we have a major rainstorm?

Forecast: hell freezes over starting later this week. Snow may also be on the way.

Looks like there was some truth to last week's long-term forecast.

Next 4 days at weather office says raining and wet. According to last weeks weathernetwork forecast today was suppose to be a high of -5 i think. Again never trust forecasts beyond 4 to 5 days, even at that length there can be massive changes. With an Arctic high expected to deepen over Eastern Canada early mid this week it is unlikely that we will also see extreme cold. But we just have to wait and see.

I'm in Central City/Whalley. So yeah, it would've hail that I heard pounding on my window.

Complete non-sequiter here. Is it still called "Whalley" or has it been officially re-branded as "Central City"?

I live in the westside of Vancouver and at around 10am there was a HUGE downpour for about 5 minutes, then the clouds shuttled away and it was brilliantly sunny for the rest of the day.

It is called Central City, unless you enjoy having your neighbourhood associated with everything that comes with Whalley.

Score!!! I wonder if the inland parts of Vancouver will see snow as well.

Quote:
Fraser Valley - west including Abbotsford
3:43 PM PST Thursday 11 December 2008
Snowfall warning for
Fraser Valley - west including Abbotsford issued

5 to 10 cm of snow is expected over Fraser Valley Friday through Friday night.

2 to 4 cm of snow is forecast over Greater Victoria and East Vancouver Island except 10 cm over inland sections Friday through Friday night.

This is a warning that significant snowfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

An explosively deepening low pressure system offshore will move across south of Vancouver on Friday. Rain mixed with snow will begin overnight on Vancouver Island and spread eastward to reach the Lower Mainland Friday morning. As the low passes to the south colder air will be drawn out of the coastal inlets and valleys and rain will change to snow later in the day. 5 to 10 cm of snow is forecast over the Fraser Valley and 2 to 4 cm of snow over Greater Victoria and East Vancouver Island except 10 cm over higher terrain and inland sections.

Snow will stop Friday overnight as the low moves further to the southeast and an Arctic front moves onto the coast from the interior. Cold temperatures and strong outflow winds will accompany the Arctic front. These strong outflow winds may produce snow along the east coast of Vancouver Island through Sunday while the rest of the coast remains sunny very cold and windy.
