$700 Million Casino + Hotel Project Rising Near the Stadiums
Quote:
Demolition permits were pulled for the Holiday Inn in April of 2018 and the wrecking ball finally struck in early 2019. The Live! Casino and Hotel has just started rising out of the ground with what looks like 3 stories already above grade. An interesting cladding is beginning to wrap around the first floor. The construction site is gigantic. The pictures that we took today do not reflect the size of this project. Next time you are down at a ball game, check it out for yourself.

When Bryce Harper hit his homer to center field today you could clearly see this rising from above Ashburn Alley.

Here you can see it, and right along 10th Street the steel frame is already 3 levels up (it appears).

Random question, but isn't there a component of the revenue from this second location tied to further reduction in the Wage Tax?

I recall when Sugar House opened there was a larger than usual cut in the Wage Tax and it was explicitly tied to the local revenue share from the casino for Philadelphia.

I would expect that to happen again here, no?

That's all the website says:

"Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia will maximize visitation, both local and out-of-market, and generate approximately $400 million in economic benefits during construction, including the creation of 3,000 direct and indirect jobs. Upon completion, the Project will create over 2,000 new direct and indirect jobs, attract 4 million additional visitors to the market and generate over $400 million per year in annual economic benefits.
The project is expected to generate Gross Gaming Revenues in excess of $300 million per year, over $1.6 billion during its first 5 years of operation; which translates into State and Local Taxes in excess of $130 million per year; approximately $700 million during the Facility’s first 5 years."

We've often talked about a Delaware Ave trolley on this subforum, and I was doing some research lately and found this on the Wikipedia page for the Philadelphia Belt Line Railroad:
Quote:
A third project is passenger service to the proposed Live! Hotel and Casino Philadelphia project in south Philadelphia.Proposed service would operate in the median of Delaware Avenue/Columbus Bouelvard along the Delaware River waterfront, including the resurfaced section between Spring Garden Street and Allegheny Avenue near Port Richmond Yard is.
Anyone know more about this? It cites an interview which I cannot locate.

It's buried somewhere in this report: https://www.dvrpc.org/Reports/16046.pdf

I think there's another report from a few years earlier when they did the study on the Delaware ave light rail. I remember seeing some renderings of the trolley around the stadiums.
