I do like it from the ground.
Coming over the bridge on Main st. and looking down the assiniboine you see the all-glass side of this building and the dcondo cranes behind it, very urban looking. I think the street interaction with the townhouse units will also be great

its like going to a new neighborhood and seeing a brand new house with an early 80's design. a modern design would have really complimented D Condo simply cause it stands out so much going over the Donald bridge.

Residential occupancy slated for fall 2016, nearing completion.

This project is beginning to grow on me as I see it coming from the south on a regular basis. Very Winnipeg-ish but a tremendous addition at 283 units...

I actually feel like shape design wise it's really, really nice, especially from certain angles.... It's just the beige stucco that makes it seem "meh" sometimes. But I agree, it blends nicely with what's around it so it's not that bad.

I do get the feeling though that visitors would never know it's new if they saw it haha.

I like, how at the top floor (penthouse suites) it has a smaller floorspace, giving it somewhat of a "peak".

Very, very nice.

I just wonder who or what will move into the retail space.

Would like to see some sort of spa there - Reiki & RMT Massage.

We don't need another grocer because Fredette's Family Foods already fills that.

Is retail space still part of the plan?

^ Was retail ever part of the plan? With the challenges of driving on Assiniboine Avenue it doesn't strike me as a desirable space for retail, or at least anything beyond something targeted at people within easy walking distance such as a convenience store, dry cleaner, etc.

There was some talk about it years ago when the design was first being introduced, where it stands today I'm not sure..

Quote:
The podium design decreases the scale of the complex on the street façade, transforming to a pedestrian friendly design of a downtown neighborhood with sidewalk shops and walk-ups supporting the elegant entry of the upscale high-rise.

This image is also dated..2010 ! Office space, etc. is availble as per the diagram at the time..

Well we'll be winding down soon on this one. Someone mentioned the townhouse component of the project as condos in another thread, not rentals. As far as I know the walk-ups are rental as well unless there has been some change from the initial plans.

Are they done the roof on this tower? Not a fan of the lunch pale handle look.

I actually don't mind the top of the building. Rather than just being a square box. But yes, I would assume it's done at this point.

^ It's not bad. It really does look like it's been there for 30 years, it definitely doesn't jump out at you as flashy and new. Overall I think it's a good addition to the skyline, though.

I have to admit I'm still ticked off about it not being built at Assiniboine and Fort instead... I just hate the gaping void that is the Upper Fort Garry park.

I'm hoping the interpretive centre goes ahead relatively soon, to fill some of that space. I'm torn on this site. I really love they preserved the gate and the site for years to come. However, its another downtown open space.. When Main St gets re-done, i'd love to have the pavement show the fort outline, Would look cool from overhead.

Can anybody give me a picture of this thing to peer at ? I've been waiting for somebody to snap a few from various angles of this beast but with so much going on it's almost as if it's been forgotten.

Yeah, 10 years ago this thing would have dominated the Man/Sask subforum but now it's a little lost in the shuffle!

The Interpretive Centre should start construction mid summer. The province wants it complete for it's 150th birthday celebration.

That's a good deadline, hopefully it's actually useful too. "Interpretive Centre" could mean anything....

It's good that it looks the way it does because in 10 years hopefully when all the big projects in downtown are constructed this would be a great filler building
