I moved away from Columbus a decade ago (April 2011) and was a student at OSU two decades ago... the changes along High Street are astounding.

I moved to Columbus in 2011 (from Minneapolis). Since I moved here, there's been tremendous change within central Columbus--especially along High Street, as development has essentially connected the Short North to OSU in a virtually continuous level of density. Plus Italian Village/Jeffrey Place, Grandview Yard (in Grandview Hts), plus lots of new development in Franklinton.
The downtown core has seen some development (especially housing), but the focus of new development seems to be the periphery of downtown. I wish there was more encouragement of development within the core!

Anyway here's more photos of various areas in metro Columbus.

I'm starting in a few suburbs: Dublin, Ohio (which has seen a lot of concentrated development along the Scioto River, near the corporate HQ for Wendys). They even have their own city market. The architecture is pretty standard new urbanist, but the Bridge Park development has lots of restaurants and has a cool bridge connecting to the historic village center of Dublin.

The Continent was a very trendy Euro-Village themed development built in the 1970s. By the late '90s it had deteriorated significantly as people went to newer developments, such as Easton Town Center. Today it's just an old apartment community.

Westerville is a college-town which has become part of metro Columbus. It has a vibrant Main Street.

Good stuff. I was really hoping to spend a few hours in Downtown Columbus back around Veterans Day 2019 but there was a damn snowstorm. Finally got to see a game at Nationwide last year right before the pandemic shut everything down.

Great town. On what street was that skyline photo over the Scioto with your bike taken?

Thanks! That photo was from a pedestrian/bike bridge over the Olentangy River right where it joins the Scioto River (South of Long Street and just north of The Boat House).

I love Columbus, OH., skylinewise... I consider it has the standard American urban skyline...benchmark.

i do too. and not just the skyline, but the whole of it is quite the standard benchmark. remarkable in its unremarkableness.

that said, columbus doesnt really care. they make good use of off the shelf urbanism and it just keeps lowkey booming along.

and not thats its totally uninnovative in the urbanism dept either. i believe the now delapidated continent development, as seen above, predates the mizner as the first modern era styled lifestyle mall and lifestyle malls were certainly a hot development trend for awhile.

Thanks for sharing these photos! I lived in Columbus from the early nineties until 2006. The section I bolded above was true the whole time I was there! Columbus' downtown is not its competitive advantage, it's the inner-ring neighborhoods of German Village, Italian Village, Victorian Village, The Short North, etc... So much has changed since I lived there, yet it still looks like Columbus to me. Nice to see some of the old establishments still around like Elevator, Hubbards, Moy's, etc... an I can't believe you have a Canal Winchester shot! That has to be the first Canal Winchester shot on SSP. I remember watching the news in the morning when it snowed and it seemed like Canal Winchester was always one of the first school districts to cancel classes.

Thanks for all your comments!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. I have many more and will try to post some others to provide additional perspectives on the greater Columbus area.

Mrnyc: Thanks for the comment on The Continent. I remember visiting Mizner Park in 1996 and being very impressed with it. I think Easton Town Center in Cbus could make a reasonable claim as one of the earliest "lifestyle" type centers.

LaSam: I completely agree about the central neighborhoods of Cbus! I don't listen much to school closing announcements, but I do hear the traffic report every morning on WOSU (NPR). There's ALWAY accidents and back-ups on the SE side of Cbus. I live NW of downtown and can't get over how many accidents they have over there.

Chris: Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for all the Ohio-themed tours you've led me on these many years!

^ you are right about mizner and easton, but the continent is definitely the prototype of them all. i lived there briefly in 1989 i think, when it was on its last legs of being in full bloom and it was in all respects the same then as any recent lifestyle mall. thats probably hard to imagine given the decrepit and forlorn state its in now, but it really did have a nice long run of popularity in the 70s-80s. there was really nothing like it in its day.

Great photos! High Street is looking impressive. The scale has changed drastically since the last time I visited.

Here's some more photos of Columbus. Some of these photos date back to 2017:

I'll start with some aerial views from the top floor of the Rhodes Tower, which is the city's tallest building. This is a State of Ohio Office Tower and it includes a free observation level.

New Albany is an relatively new affluent suburb northeast of Columbus. The brainchild of Les Wexner (founder of The Limited, Abercrombie & Fitch et al), the community has a very strong Georgian architectural theme.
