2,000 hotel rooms proposed for Austin

And of course the comments page is good for laughs. There are some really dumb people in this city. LOL

Check out the video they have. They actually credited SkyscraperPage.com for a rendering, although they said ".net".

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A shortage of hotel rooms is starting to hurt Austin's economy. The city missed out on a $5-million boost when Dell decided to take its annual convention to Las Vegas. It said the local hotel market was unable to accommodate its expanded event.

It seems those "2000 rooms" doesn't even include the 1000 room Marriott. So that would be 3000 rooms.

It also does not include the hotel components of the Seaholm and Green developments.

Good call. There is a 22 story hotel planned for seaholm and of course Green has at least one integrated as well. Hotel rooms are great... travellers spend $$ and it essentially puts the effect of 3K residents downtown.

The proposals in this city are immense... below is a quick list by stories for all proposed buildings downtown. I took some liberty here and there based off relevant info. If the majority get built even in the next 10 years the change in mass downtown will be quite considerable.

70 (T. Stacy)
51 (Green prop)
49 (21c condo tower)
44 (Green)
42 (summer)
42 (fall)
42 (winter)
40 (Green prop)
40 (novarre ph II)
35 (ovation)
32 (Rio)
31 (marriot)
31 (21c apartment tower)
30 (Green prop)
30 (Green prop)
30 (Rainey st proposal)
27 (shoal creek walk proposal)
22 (seaholm hotel)
22 (hotel van z)
22 (1705 Guadalupe)
21 (Gables republic sq)
18 (westin)
18 (eco luxury hotel)
12 (capital terrace)

Tom Stacy is due to announce his building in the very near future...he's going to ride into town on the nose of a Capital Metro train shouting the details for the building.

LOL that was funny...

Seriously though from what I hear T. Stacy has been in negotiations with a very high brand hotel. I think we should give this one a few more months and we could very well hear some interesting news about it soon.

I think it would nice to see some more resorts built around Austin like the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort.

He said around the lost pines resort. None of those are anywhere near Bastrop County.
