Until reading that article on Archdiocese building I totally forgot they had to sell it to raise money to pay off all the lawsuits they had.

Don't remember seeing anything posted about this

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...67bcb1ef8.html

A brewing company is buying the entire space but leaving the tenants there for now and taking over part of it for their operation. They sell complete kits to open up microbreweries and are seeing high growth rates and also plan to open up a tap room with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The company they're buying it from will remain as a tenant.

Does anyone know about the plans for the empty lot at Carrolton and Canal? There were for sale signs for over 5 years and now there are zoning update signs there now. I’m sorry if this has already been reported on but I can’t find plans anywhere in a search. This is close to me and I want to know what’s going on.

Took some pictures of the YWCA under construction at Norman Francis and D'Hemecourt. Having trouble getting the pictures to show up. I'm using the [IMG] code by clicking on the image function but can't seem to get the links to work. I've done this successfully before so not sure what I'm doing wrong. Trying links from both flickr and imgur. Can anybody help me out? I'm removing the http: that's automatically entered into the dialog box but it doesn't work that way or with it left in. And I'm using the full link including https

I believe it's going to be another apartment complex.

EDIT: Sorry this is wrong. The apartment complex is going up on Claiborne and Canal. Too many C streets.

Tennis posted about it a few months ago. The owner is proposing a 2 story building with a Main Squeeze on the 1st floor fronting Canal. There will be a 2nd retail space in the back fronting Carrollton & office space on the 2nd floor.

Luxury condos planned for downtown New Orleans after Tulane Ave. building sells for $38M

A group of Covington-based investors has purchased a 166-unit apartment building in the Central Business District for $38 million, with plans to convert it into luxury condominiums that could also be used as short-term rental properties.

The deal for the 10-story California Building, located at 1111 Tulane Ave. near Duncan Plaza and downtown hospitals, is at least the second major sale of a high-end apartment complex in downtown New Orleans this year, after the $120 million sale of the 330-unit Canal 1535 building on Canal Street in May.

It follows several other projects in the downtown area in recent years aimed at providing housing tied to the medical district, including a $55 million renovation of the Warwick Hotel on Duncan Plaza for Tulane University medical students and faculty and a $100 million student-housing complex rising near University Medical Center.

Preston Dellinger — whose firm Servio Capital bought the California Building from Metairie businessman Craig Boes — said the planned redevelopment of the former Charity Hospital building as well as other recent investments in the BioDistrict made the 1950s era building an attractive investment to him and his partners.

He's already put several of these up for sale on the MLS.

Also I think Tennis is taking a well-deserved and hopefully temporary break. If you go to the link at the bottom of his posts he's still updating there.

Second Line Stages pulls back curtain on $100 million expansion

https://www.nola.com/news/business/a...a2816928f.html

Sound stage operator is tripling in size, reflecting booming local production business

BY ANTHONY MCAULEY | STAFF WRITER
NOV 4, 2022 - 4:00 AM
Comments
Second Line Stages, one of Louisiana's largest television and film studio operators, on Thursday showed off its huge new sound stage complex, a sprawling series of airplane hanger-like structures that cover two city blocks in New Orleans' Lower Garden District.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that also marked the start of the 33rd annual New Orleans Film Festival, which is back this year with full in-person events and screenings of 170 films.

The opening film, "The Inspection," was being screened for festival goers in one of the four 15,000-square-foot sound stages that make up the Lower Garden District property and that cost the better part of a $100 million investment by Hackman Capital Partners, the Culver City, California-based private equity group that bought Second Line two years ago.

"Before this was built, it was just two beat-up old warehouses," said Trey Burvant, who co-founded Second Line with Susan Brennan in 2010. Pointing to the new four-stage complex, Burvant said they are the first purpose-built sound stages in Louisiana, with state-of-the-art audio capabilities and other adaptable features that film and television productions require these days....

The completion of Second Line's project means the company now dominates three blocks in the shadow of the Market Street Power Plant's smokestacks, between Religious Street and Annunciation Street. It is a visible sign of the booming film and television production business in New Orleans, especially since COVID-19 pandemic restrictions were eased.

Cantrell said film and television production brought about $1 billion of spending to New Orleans in 2021, and is on track to top that this year, as New Orleans cements its spot as the fourth largest television and film production hub in the United States.

They completed the conversion of the abandoned hotel off Chef Menteur into apartments, and it turned out pretty nice from what I've seen. Definitely a big improvement from before that could potentially spur some other development over there and create decent housing options for middle income people.
