Does anyone else feel like this proposal is way too close to the bridge? I am all for more density and it looks great but like, let the bridge breath a little more, ya know?

I think it is misleading the way it is written, but what they are trying to say is that part of the normal 17% tax that hotels pay goes to the convention center. i am not sure the exact breakdown but the convention center gets a big cut and other big cuts go to the LA stadium district (which manages smoothie king center and superdome) and New Orleans Tourism and Marketing Bureau. These hotel taxes are one of the big sources of the convention center's cash. So other hotels might be mad about it but not much they can do unless they try to renegotiate the hotel tax system.

Not really room to allow it to breathe anymore without significantly encroaching on the private property of the owners... im sure in real life it will look great and still quite open

The property is where it is... if anything, blame the bridge designers (not Adjaye but probably EDR) for putting the bridge so close to the property line. They probably insisted it had to go inside the Piety St right-of-way which is only 40' wide...

But yeah, it would be nice if the building had a chamfered corner or some other architectural move that acknowledged the bridge.

Ultimately I think it'll be fine. You can't even see over the top of the bridge's sides when you're on it except for in a couple small spots, so it's not like it'll block any kind of view. Maybe it'll block some view for the hotel guests, but not for park-goers. I think it's nice density that will make the park entrance feel a little less randomly placed.

Developers sticking to elderly care facility for Lindy Boggs site
http://midcitymessenger.com/2019/06/...te/#more-25186

Hopefully they are successful with getting this moving fast. It remains one of the biggest eyesores in the city.

Seems to me that a lot of MCC projects are moving now that Joe Jaeger is no longer involved in the Convention Center hotel - Power Plant, Lindy Boggs, Drive Shack. Hopefully Plaza Tower is next.

So wait, is the Starbucks still coming to South Market District? Also, do we know of any other future/planned Starbucks in the city (that's not on Magazine St, which has like 49281 now)?

Last time I passed, construction was underway for the Starbucks at the corner of Claiborne and Washington.
