Listen, nobody comes here for “great tales of legos”. So, lego.

As far as observation design, this tower being a hybrid of hotel/observation tower, it would be a variation on what we would typically expect to see on the skyline.

While a building like Vanderbilt has a more traditional skyline appearance, some variety won’t hurt.

Sometimes you can get a nicely designed observation pod that stands out on its own.

Though not built, I was a fan of Norman Foster’s “Tulip”…..

No way this is real. The cost of all the structure above the Pool Deck level would be INSANE for very low return. I don't care if the ride is $100/person, no way the math would work for this.

^ And I understood it was nonsense. You don’t have to like a design, but to go to such extremes is ridiculous.

With the mods’ kind forbearance, I would like to mention that NazI-era urban planning was nowhere near as much style as sheer epic scope.

I shan’t spak more on the matter.

from what we have seen so far, the foster tulip would be far more graceful and preferable.

When viewed from the skyline I agree. However, having to look up at a 40 story aluminum-clad stick from ground level would suck too. Basically, they both suck.

This would be a totally acceptable building if Extell got rid of that ridiculous skinny neck.

I wonder what people thought of the Empire State Building's spire when they first saw it. We know people didn't like the top of the Chrysler too much when it was first built.

Here, we have seen a basic "outline" of a building, not having seen a single rendering. Some people will like it, some people won't. It will be an icon.

It's ugly. It looks like an inverted short lego structure is atop another lego skyscraper.

Ah ouais ? That was years ago. I found it laughable when they first released the renderings you posted again.
Thank goodness they wouldn't build anything that cheesy.

A building that tall in a prime area has to be optimized and really useful, right?
While that thing was ultimately useless, only meant for tourists that would pay $500 to have a meal up there.

I would call it the Eiffel Tower syndrome.

Agreed. I don't think it will age well. Like a modern day version of the worst Commie buildings.

^^^I kinda really like it m’self…

Sort of a Brutalist beyond the figurative box vibe…

To me the task in fleshing out the evidently multi-purpose tower debated here would be to integrate that sort of actual vision to their plans.

This project is the best place to carry out the time-honored theory v execution test…ant to a somewhat lesser degree, praxis v practice.

I.e. vis a vis the second example: trial and error; go with what has the best chance to work, given what’s available to work with.

I've ridden dozens of Intamin drop towers and never had an issue. Intamin however are more than a little notorious in the industry for building rides with a lot of downtime. Unlike conservative stalwarts like Bolliger & Mabillard, Intamin really pushes & innovates. Many new ride concepts carry their logo. As a result this will be a ride to ride immediately when it's running, as it could be down for a sensor or ride computer disagree 30 minutes later, and down all day whilst on-site technicians (who will literally have to live on site) go over everything.

at least after you looked at the forster tulip it would remind you to clean your ears with a cue tip once in awhile.
