The Exchange, the tallest project under construction right now in Kalamazoo, which just broke ground after about 6 years of financing struggles.
Like Harold's Square, it is a mixed use structure that went through numerous design iterations, although at least each time a redesign happened, it gained height, from 8 stories, to 12, to the current 15. Still, the architectural renders leave something to be desired. But the last time anything this tall was built in the city was in 1984, so we can't get too picky.
Like you stated, it usually comes down to money.
