Good stuff.

Those neighbourhood Karens should go eat a big one, if you know what I mean.

"Save Winnipeg Parks" was such a transparent dog whistle. The land was never used as a park and never intended to be one, and that part of the city has an embarrassment of riches in terms of accessible, high quality greenspace.

The board should still be scrapped too

I feel like Biff often teases new developments but that it doesn't always make it to an announcement.

One of the clues was “new start, not a restart”.

In February Northland Properties said that it was getting pushed back (again). Hopefully some positive info will come out in fall.

Judging from my travels lately, hotel room rates seem quite high around North America. Pre-pandemic it felt like I could consistently find a decent room just about anywhere for around $150 a night. Now it feels like it's easily double that. Downtown Toronto and Vancouver in particular are crazy, it's pushing $500 a night for even basic Holiday Inn-calibre hotels (I know this because I just booked a room at the Holiday Inn in Toronto). At those prices I'm surprised there isn't more hotel construction activity. Although that said, I guess construction costs have jumped significantly too...

i had a group of consultants fly in from the states for the last couple days and they said they couldn't find hotel rooms to stay in downtown....they had to stay out near polo park.

I know it's mostly a Japanese phenomenon, but I would absolutely stay in a capsule hotel to save a few bucks if travelling alone.

3 day convention at RBCCCCCCCCC. Likely the main issue.

I booked a capsule hotel in Richmond for an upcoming trip.
~$100/night which would have seemed high back in the day, but at the moment the only other options in that price range are hostels and dubious-looking homestays.

I think it is simply an issue with above average demand right now as lots of travel that was pushed back for 2-3 years is happening all at once. Give it a year or two and things should level back off. I have noticed the same sort of thing with a few different cities when booking different trips and also noticed the occupancy seems to be very high when at the hotels too. Reality is if you put shovels in the ground today expecting those levels to be sustained for 5+ years you are likely to get burned unless you are doing something like a conversion of the CRA building which might be able to turn around quicker.
