The weather in these parts is a curious thing. Despite the colder-than-normal conditions this year brought on by La Niña, we're still in for a hot summer according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

I read an article the other day and it said May, June and July will be cooler than normal, not looking great.

I dunno, I think Metro Van could use a cool year.

During a period of La Niña influence, western Canada is typically the portion of the country that experiences the most significant impacts, according to Anderson. La Niña is one of many teleconnections meteorologists study to determine weather outlooks on a seasonal scale. Teleconnections are essentially a correlation found between meteorological phenomena located a great distance from one another.

La Niña conditions tend to influence the orientation and position of the jet stream over North America. In this case, the projected position of the jet stream this summer is forecast to funnel more moisture over much of British Columbia.

"It'll be wetter than normal across the northern part of the province with near-normal rainfall expected in the southern portion," Anderson explained.

"Given current conditions and the teleconnections expected to be in place, we may see a reduction in fire activity this year, especially when compared to last summer," Anderson said...

... In terms of temperatures this summer, AccuWeather forecasters say anyone in western Canada dreading a repeat of last year's brutal heat may be able to breathe a bit easier this year.

Anderson expects air temperatures will be near normal for much of British Columbia, as water conditions in the Canadian Pacific are expected to be cooler than normal. Cooler waters just offshore will likely exert a notable influence on the air that flows inland over the province.

Does anyone have, or know of, any further updates on the summer 2022 forecast for Vancouver? I know this is a La Niña year, but this cold, rainy weather seems to be a record-breaker. It's off the charts.

Yeah, it's been super wet, and today is, yet again, another soaker. The ten day forecast on my phone is.....not encouraging to say the least.

Having said that, I've suffered through so many hot and humid summer in East Asia that I don't mind this weather right now. My opinion may change by July though.

These gusts are worst I have seen in several years. For 30 mins or so I was genuinely worried about our balcony glasses breaking. The glass was shaking and twisting like crazy. Luckily it is mostly blowing from the other side of the building but the building is swaying by some 5cm and the main structure inside walls is creaking loudly. I can see East Burnaby being without power from our window.

The flash of light was at 9:21pm, the time-lapse is from 11:03pm to 12:23am
First time I see the red warning light (on the side of the cab) flashing

I wonder what it was like in Seattle. They get consistently higher wind speeds than Vancouver does.

Looks like that's what it was, once things calmed down (took a look at 4am) the light was off.

Seemed like it was similar. They had around 100,000 down in Puget Sound

EDIT: 300K in Western Washington

A tree fell across Willingdon Avenue next to Grange Street on Friday night and it took until today noon for Burnaby staff to remove it. There was quite an interesting traffic chaos to watch this past two days with cars trying to drive around it. I think someone kept removing the road closed sign confusing drivers. One has to wonder how it took 2.5 days to remove it.

Thanks, looks like there's an advisory for the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay morning/early afternoon runs regarding potential cancellations due to weather conditions. Also, some sailings from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay are about 15 minutes longer than usual due to ongoing engine issues with the Coastal Celebration; that vessel is in service but it is not travelling through Active Pass.

Did anyone take any snow pictures? It is so early for this time of year! (pretty, though).
