Given that they have anti-suicide protocols in place to prevent someone from for example hanging themselves with their belt, the only thing we can come up with is that he ingested lots of drugs before the chase and they hadn't had their full lethal effect yet.
The term they used, at least initially, was "medical episode", not "self induced". He may have had a stroke, may have bled out, may have OD'd, etc.

I may be mistaken, but I think I heard both. Perhaps that the medical episode was self-inflicted or induced.

A friend from Northern Sask. told me that the rumour on their street was that Damien was the recipient of 'town justice'.

Halifax Chronicle Herald: Adam Drake charged with first-degree murder in Patrick Stay homicide

Quote:
Police have charged a man in the death of popular Dartmouth battle rapper Patrick Wayne Stay last week in Halifax.

Investigators arrested 31-year-old Adam Drake in Tantallon on Saturday and released his name on Sunday.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Halifax on Monday to face a charge of first-degree murder.

Previously, Drake faced a first-degree murder charge for the Nov. 21, 2016 shooting death of Tyler Ronald Joseph Keizer at the corner of Gottingen and Falkland Streets. However, the charge was withdrawn before a scheduled trial in October 2021 because, according to Crown attorney Rick Hartlen at the time, “a reasonable prospect of conviction did not exist.”

In 2013, Drake was charged with attempted murder and 10 other offences after Brandon John Anderson was shot at least four times in the parking lot of the Red Fox Bar & Grill in Halifax. Anderson refused to co-operate with police, and the charges were withdrawn in March of 2014.

Hopefully, the charges stick this time. Adam Drake has been getting away with literal murder for years now.

Glad they caught him.

I wonder if they knew each other or this was some random attack? Why the hell did this happen?

Rough day in west Toronto suburbs.

Guy went on a shooting spree and killed two people including a cop. Injured a few more.

Was later killed by police.

Sounds like the cop's murder was an ambush killing as he just came right up behind him as he was having a coffee on his break with colleagues.

Seems like the killer then went to his place of work and shot some colleagues, killing at least one. Among the shooting victims was his boss.

It all unfolded in Mississauga and Milton.

Ottawa 10

Ottawa's 10th is particularly heartbreaking, as it was a 22-year-old Inuit girl from up north who just arrived last weekend to study nursing in the city.

A disproportionate (hugely when you consider their overalll share of the population) share of Ottawa's murder victims are Indigenous women - and of those many are Inuit.

JFC, that's sad. Her parents thought she'd build a successful life and within a week she ends up dead

Wow, BC made it a whole week without one homicide,
but Ontario picked up the slack with more than half a dozen in the last few days. 😕

Montreal at 23 or 24 now.

Another woman killed by her spouse or ex-spouse.

A significant proportion of Montreal and Quebec's murders are of this nature.

Sounds like one more for Ottawa this afternoon.

Three people stabbed at St Laurent mall in the east end. One dead.
