Mr. Berkowitz has been busy. He has already gained the necessary approvals on the height of the tower from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Zoning has also been completed for the huge project.

“We will be presenting the project to the city commission for certain remaining approvals,” Mr. Berkowitz said recently.

“We do not anticipate an issue in receiving phased permits, which will allow the foundation work to commence,” he added.

I hadn't realized it was that far along. It would be great to see this get built.

Dubai meets Miami at a party. Nine months later, this is their child. Great detailed renderings of a great peice of architecture that draws influences from what we see going up in Dubai and in Asia. Along with this, Miami is expecting a lot more projects to rise as many are being revived from the recession. A lot of 200m+ towers too .

I would like to mention that the Shanghai Tower was created by an arch firm out of San Francisco, and Burj Khalifa/Dubai was built by a firm out of Chicago. It is great that the futurism & lessons they learned abroad can now be realized at home.

Indeed. Traveling is probably the best thing an architect can do to improve his or hers mindset. Can't wait for this one to start. That restaurant/club looks delightful.

Very unique; looks like a hissing snake.

Both renderings look especially exposed to a possible sea level rise.

SkyRise Miami wants state funding now, and commissioners are eating it up

Notes:
1) Shovel ready work in late spring 2014.
2) The vote was 12-0 in favor of giving state funding for the project.
3) Will be largest tourist attraction in South Florida.

Yes sir. They received FAA approval, the zoning is complete, and the developer is aggressively working on setting this one up. The city commision seems to also be in favor of this project.

Its going to be great for the area, especially for tourism as well as providing permanent jobs.

I know it's not a building, per se, but will certainly appear as a new tallest in skyline shots due to its substantial profile.
