Very happy about all those updates (during the last 1 or 2 weeks).

This skyscraper will complete a planned development which dates back over 40 years.
It will add a residential component to the office and retail complex and that is good for this area.

Apartments (and parking). I say 'half' because presumably the east-facing apartments will not be lucky enough to have uninterrupted freeway views.

^ if demand for housing is strong enough to result in those rates in 2022, then there's less excuse for certain new projs to not break ground in the next 6-12 months. oceanwide should also be snapped up if the current owner can't complete it.

meanwhile....I like how trees are visible on the upper levels of the grand ave proj....good thing too that some of the sides of the upper level walkways are being covered with metal panels.....but that east facing side?.....oh oh, we've got a problem, houston. Those big blank umber colored walls near 1st & olive st hopefully aren't the final product.

Video Link

those blank walls will be an even bigger issue if the colburn school proj doesn't go forward....that's one devlpt in dtla I really wanted to see break ground & start construction. That & the apt tower at 4th & Hill & the olympia proj between 9th & olympic blvd east of the fwy.

still, dtla in certain ways is better today than it has ever been since the city of LA was created over 200 yrs ago.

Speaking of Oceanwide, looks like they entered into a purchase/sale agreement to sell off their Hawaii property last month.

https://media-oceanwide.todayir.com/...0061157_en.pdf

The sale price is a paltry sum of about $23M, so unlikely to really be the funding source they were looking for for the ~$1B completion cost of the LA property, but it's at least interesting to see that they were able to secure a local buyer for Hawaii and perhaps can move in that direction for LA as well. Of course, they kept calling out the LA property as their highest priority and the one they would try to fund with everything else, so I guess we'll just have to see what they say in their 2021 annual financial report that should be published in the March 2022 timeframe.

Oceanwide and Broadway Trade Center are two projects that would really be transformative for their respective areas. Hopefully work will resume on both this year!

It's incredible how much brookfield has changed Fig@7th's vibe and environment. It almost feels like the Rockefeller center in the sense of being flanked and surrounded by skyscrapers.

I wonder what these buildings official names are going to be? I often wonder what goes into the naming of a skyscraper. We know them as 'Brookfield' and 'Mitusi Fudosan' but when they open will they be know as their respective addresses or something weird and pretentious like LiVe @ 8th and FiG or The Waterwall at 755 Figueroa...which has a nice feel to it actually.

Yesterday, Adidas announced they are moving their hqs to dtla at the California Mart revamp at 9th and main (107,000 sq ft). Today, forever 21 announced that they are moving into the same building (115, 000 sq ft). Awesome start to the week for downtown.

Are they not going to renovate the 3rd building at CMC? It's hideous, dated and uncharming. It needs to be completely reskinned and the ground floor reconceptualized.

You mean this?

I don't think that looks bad at all.

Massive get by CMC to get both Adidas and then the Forever 21 Headquarters. Can't wait until that FoodHall is opened up and humming.
