^ I agree. He seems like a genuinely good person but him as mayor probably would have been a disaster.

LA rail systems like to take sharp turns and detours in order to cover more stops and a lot of underserved areas in one go rather than going the fastest route which is a straight line. In effect, you try to please everyone and you please no one because it takes so damned long. It should be faster, but driving still has that advantage even as congestion gets worse.

Incredible, didn't realize they were renovating Macarthur Park. I can't tell if they also added the chainlink fencing around the perimeter like they did with Echo Park, where it seems like the strategy has been working to keep the encampments out. It looks beautiful at a passing glance the few times I've driven by Echo Park recently. Hope to visit in person soon.

Macarthur Park looks better than I've ever seen it. Wow. Cannot wait to take the subway over there and enjoy it.

Was at Echo Park lake as recently as this week - Can confirm it is still in fantastic shape with what seemed like people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying it.

Can't say I'm fan of the aesthetics of the chain link fence, but has worked to keep encampments out.

The park looks nice and clean... but it doesn't look like anyone is using it? Aside from a couple of Canada geese.

The chain link fence is horrible, and blocks many of the pedestrian entrances. It makes one feel as though they are trapped in a cage, the opposite of how I want to feel when enjoying a park.

It's probably just temporary if they're still not fully done with the remodel.

I know certain urban parks and playgrounds have permanent, more decorative fencing around them like Grand Hope Park and Spring Street Park, but if it's chain link, I'm guessing it's temporary.

From what other forumers are observing, this hasn't happened at Echo Park... so maybe MacArthur will see a similar outcome!

Wow, the new MacArthur park is beautiful! What an oasis it will be in one of the densest parts of the city.

Certainly hope this helps the area around it to improve dramatically.

LA had better be able to at least keep one of its oldest parks in decent shape....meanwhile, 2 blocks away it appears to be still tent city.

I'm referring to the fence around Echo Park.

Until there are enough shelter beds or low income housing, are there any large unused places in Los Angeles where homeless could camp in tents or park their vans and cars without ruining parks or residential streets? A safe place where they could get services, clean up and shower, get drug treatment and medical services, get fed, but not bother anyone? I'm thinking perhaps in the industrial area east of downtown, there might be a large unused warehouse or factory that could be converted to a place for the homeless to go. Is the Sears building in Boyle Heights being used? Of course some money wouId be needed for showers, bathrooms plus social services and security. Better than having them camping out in the streets and parks. Interim solution until we get enough permanent housing. Of course the numbers are so large that more than one place like this will be needed. One location not enough.

Not a fan of those hokey lights in the park with the concrete bases. Looks like a lifestyle center. Those aren't the originals are they?
