Love the pictures! The ones with city hall have a nice Gotham City feel to them.

Completely agree. Every time I see new drone photos posted by Tony I get so excited. It gives a totally different perspective that you can’t really get at street level.

I'm glad to update the threads, and post some content for the forum. I think The Philly Threads are the busiest next to NYC & the Chicago one.

I would agree with that and also would add that the Philly threads are probably the best organized on the site. Our mods are really the best

Looking at TKs old photos, knowing what we know now about how many other highrises would eventually come, there really didn't need to be a Liberty 2.

Liberty 1 by itself does look like it's missing a partner, but if today's buildings were all there, with something else instead of 2 Liberty, things may look a little better. Though given that we do have a 2 Liberty, I'd fully support a 3 Liberty that's 1,300' tall... but that's something that can only exist in my dreams.

Was going back and looking at more old photos of 1 Liberty construction, and it doesn't appear to have been built using the same type of concrete-core construction that most highrises of the past 20 years have employed.

Are the Libs any less "sound" (for lack of a better term) than the Comcasts? I vaguely recall reading that the concrete core became more ubiquitous after 9/11 due to what we saw happen to all-steel buildings, but I may also be completely imagining that. Any of you that are engineers know?

That's funny, even before my fascination of Philly I always had a concept in my mind of Liberty 3 or Commerce 3.

And yes, One Liberty Place is an all steel structure, but Two Liberty Place and the Independence Blue Cross Tower have central concrete cores

Here's an image I found recently, looks to be dated around July 1989. You can see 2 Liberty's core recently topped out as the scaffolding is still on the top, along with the steel on the 42nd floor. And the 42nd floor is 539.5 feet high, the next floor passes the Statue of William Penn. You can see Mellon Bank Center rising as well, with the crane next to City Hall

I made a 3d model of the structure to fully realize this tower and how it was built

And I'm making models to show the construction as well, also your teaser to my next article
