^ I was going to ask the same thing.

And has the sidewalk on Walnut always been blocked, or are early signs of work starting on the replacement building?

That's the new building on 2nd street in Old City, across from Plough and the Stars.

Going up quick.

Google Maps satellite view has been updated to early 2022 imagery.

You can now see construction progress on all of the new highrises, everything going on in University City, Navy Yard, North Broad Street, Francisville, Brewerytown, Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Olde Kensington, East Kensington, etc. etc.

Was it? It's still old for me. No uCity Square.

They mean the non-3D satellite map. That's been updated, but I'm really hoping for a 3D update for the suburbs. Philly is updated to August 24th 2020 for 3D satellite imagery based on some internet sleuthing I just did.

Looking at The Laurel, it looks to be that it could be dated around November 2021

There's still a few lots in Old City. I'm pretty sure they'll all be gone soon.

I hope everyone who voted in the city voted NO to the first ballot question about City Council putting NIMBYs on the ZBA.

You could put “poke your mother in the eye” and people would still vote yes to those stupid ballot questions. But another ding on Jim Kenney’s lasting legacy that minimizes the mayor’s power and maximizes the city council presidents power.

It was always going to pass. Most people aren't turning to the inqy for how they should vote and the wording on that question was always going to sound good to the average voter.

Not sure how it's a ding on Kenney though. I'm not a fan, but he was irrelevant and I don't think there's anything he could have done to be relevant. This is bigger than just the power dynamic between elected officials. This was really about community-member antipathy towards development / change / gentrification. We have to solve the problem of mistrust. People are suspicious of development because they're naturally resistant to change and they don't feel that that change is to their benefit.

The 'ding' is that the mayor could pick the ZBA. Now it can't. It happened under Kenney's watch. He didn't even try to speak up against it.

The bigger dynamic is that a small group of hyper-activity busy bodies who show up on zoom calls on Tuesday nights to complain about their inability to park (many of the people who are vocal on social media expose their real motivates aren't actually about parking either, but really "keeping the neighborhood the same") is overriding actual planning professionals and most people who generally just want the city to do well. People are "suspicious" because Thugs like Clarke and company don't want new residents to move into their district because the status quo might change and they won't be able to continue their corrupt governing.
