Update on the City Winery project...

Incoming City Winery buys large property behind Michigan Central Station

The deal included an approximately 18,500-square-foot building at 2640 W. Vernor Hwy. that sits on 0.424 acres, according to city land records. Six other parcels included in the sale, two of which sit on the west side of Saint Anne Street, total about 0.921 acres.


City Winery Detroit's business incorporation documents list Michael Dorf, CEO of City Winery, and an 11th Avenue address in New York City where the company is located.

The company said in January that it would open a Detroit location, along with outposts in four other U.S. cities, Billboard reported at the time. City Winery currently operates in eight U.S. cities.

Detroit-based O'Connor Real Estate was the brokerage firm on the property sale; Moisides declined comment Thursday morning. Vincent Mazzola, senior associate for O'Connor Real Estate, told Crain's that City Winery is planning an announcement on the location in the coming weeks but declined further comment.

This would be the time to do it…plan it thoroughly.

An update on the effort to restore some of the old Western Market in Corktown. Right now, the biggest sticking point is getting the necessary funding to get the project off the ground.
Quest to revive Corktown's Western Market faces money hurdles

The main structure is expected to have 10,800 square feet available for up to 60 independent vendors, including for Motor City Match participants, Schneider said. The shed also includes a 900 square-foot coffee shop.

Motor City Match is a city-run program that offers financial and technical assistance for growing Detroit businesses.


"We're hoping that an entity involved in Corktown (who can) help us obtain low cost financing to get the project moving and also allow us to offer low rental space for the market's vendors," she said.

The demos at Michigan Central is to make way for green space and pathways to connect MCS, the Book Depository and the parking garage on Bagley. There's renderings here.

As mentioned on the previous page, the demo at Michigan and Washington was likely demolished for a rumored apartment building that's been briefly mentioned in the media the past few years. The parking lot directly north was recently acquired by the owner of the demo'd building and has been mentioned to be part of the plans. There hasn't been a public announcement yet so that's really all we know at this point, but I'd assume we'll hear something in the next few months.

It's awesome to see that this gem on Michigan Ave in SW Detroit will be redeveloped.
Grosfield Building sold to Moisides with redevelopment vision as restaurant, residences

Developer and investor Christos Moisides paid an estimated $1.775 million in four separate transactions for multiple parcels making up nearly the entire block on which the three-story late Victorian building at 3365 Michigan Ave. sits.

One of those properties, which was damaged in a fire a little over a year ago, has recently been torn down. Fenced-off rubble now lays where the building at 3663 Michigan Ave. once stood.

Moisides said Tuesday that he has owned property in that area of southwest Detroit since 2017 and "was tired of seeing (the Grosfield Building), year after year, get worse and worse." He talked to Invest Detroit, whose Detroit Investment Fund issued a $2.2 million mortgage in mid-June, according to Wayne County records.

Looks like Gucci signs are placed above the entrance so hopefully they are opening soon?

Also Looks like McMullen Boutique from Oakland (CA not County) is opening Sept. 16th for 6 months at 1419 Woodward next to Bonobos where Dose Detroit was. Kind of wish we had more permanent retail, but at least is something that fills up a space along Woodward for now.

Two Historic Apartment Buildings Renovated in Detroit’s Jefferson Chalmers Neighborhood

East Jefferson Development Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Jefferson East Inc., has renovated and reopened two historic apartment buildings on Marlborough Street.

The project is part of the Strategic Neighborhood Fund Initiative, a partnership between the city of Detroit and Invest Detroit. The completion of one building at 910 Marlborough introduces additional affordable and market-rate housing in the historic Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood and brings new life to the long-vacant buildings, one of which has stood empty for some 40 years.

Located at 910 (South) and 1031 (North) Marlborough, the apartment buildings will feature 23 multi-family housing units, with 13 reserved at deeply affordable housing rates between 50 percent and 60 percent area median income.

The project was designed to offer Detroiters options, with floor plans offering one-, two-, and three-bedrooms. All units, which range in size from 656 to 931 square feet, offer modern kitchens and bathrooms and in-unit washers and dryers. Apartments are currently available for lease at Marlborough South, while Marlborough North is slated to open this October.

MEDC Approves Funding Support for Multiple Projects, Including Coda Brush Park in Detroit

Michigan Economic Development Corp., via the Michigan Strategic Fund, on Tuesday approved funding support for several projects across the state, including support for business expansion projects, including Detroit, Auburn Hills, and Lansing.

In total, the projects during MSF’s board meeting are expected to generate more than $153 million in investment around the state and create or retain 672 jobs for Michiganders.

In Detroit, the Coda Brush Park project north of Comerica Park includes the rehabilitation of an existing single-story building and construction of additions that will result in a five-story, mixed-use development in the Brush Park neighborhood. When complete, the project will include a ground-level restaurant and bar, a second-story office, and three stories of for-sale condominiums and integrated parking.

The project is expected to generate a total capital investment of $27.9 million and create 45 full-time equivalent jobs, and will help meet demand for restaurant, housing, office, and parking space in the neighborhood. In addition, it will bring long-vacant property back to productive use, add vibrancy and density, and generate additional economic activity in the area.

The old WJBJ Building in New Center will be redeveloped. It's nice to see old Detroit buildings getting rehabbed like this.
Long-vacant historic former WJBK building to become Midnight Golf headquarters

Renee Fluker, founder and president of Midnight Golf, said her organization is about to embark on a capital campaign to raise the $10 million to $12 million needed for construction to retrofit the 30,000-square-foot building at 7441 Second Ave. at Bethune Street.

"Midnight Golf needed our own home," said Fluker, whose administrative office is currently in Bingham Farms. "We had been at Franklin Wright, the Northwest Activities Center, Marygrove. One time it was perfect for us, but now we are getting ready to start a new program October 1, and we already have 800 applications of high school seniors. We can only take 250 and they come from as far as Romeo to Ypsi."
