Montreal to host NASCAR Sprint 2010

http://www.montrealgazette.com/Sport...012/story.html

The Grand Prix may be gone for good, but NASCAR appears to be here to stay.

NASCAR announced Monday it will renew its agreement to hold races in Montreal for the next three years. This year, only the Nationwide series will be held, but in the next two years, Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will also host the higher-level Sprint Cup series.

Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay said Monday he was pleased with the announcement. “It’s excellent news for Montreal, auto racing fans, and merchants, hoteliers and restaurant owners, who will benefit from the thousands of tourists that will be attracted by the event,” Tremblay said in a statement.

The F1 and Bernie Ecclestone are going to get credit crunched in their new middle east markets.

The oil bust, the recession in Dubai and such are going to hurt many of the new circuits.

More stable, traditional circuits like Montreal will probably be back in a few years.

F1 back at Montreal? not as long as Ecclestone is in charge ,the man is 78 and thinks he's going to live forever. And if it does return what kind of series will it be? the appeal of F1 has gone down the drain the last few years, major sponsers like ING , RBS and Honda have all pulled the plug in their involvement in F1. Let's also not forget the fact that over half of the Grand-Prixs lose tons of money, why do they lose money ? well you have a situation where you have that greedy evil midget Ecclestone suckering cities and countries into building $100-$250 million race tracks then signing 5 year contracts which insures that the host city won't make a dime, then when it comes time to re-negotiate he moves on to a new sucker city.....maybe Montreal is better off with NASCAR in the end

^disagree... but that is with the caveat that ecc has to go and a 'new' F1 has to emerge.

^hey, that might even be an improvement over the phoney euro-trash of the F1 days. And the guidos reving their car engines/laying rubber, along Crescent street.

LOL, damn Gino beats.

I heard a rumour of the A1GP coming to Montreal as well. It's nearly identical to F1, but instead of racing for a team, they race for their country. So the Euro-trash might be back after all with their countries' flags.
