so they are laying the concrete floor right now and everything goes up from here? basically the lowest floor of the building is just beneath lower wacker?

I would have through they go down like 5 floors or more for parking and mechanical... interesting.

No - they are laying the base on which they will build up the foundation mat. The lowest floor will be at nearly the same level as Lower Wacker.

You can get a good idea of how deep that mat will be by looking at how high up the rebar is coming out of the top of the piers.

Not quite. There will be a floor entirely below Lower Wacker. It shows up on those sections a few pages back.

Looking closely - very strange - it appears that there is one below grade level fully on the northern part of the site (not to odd) - BUT - there will also be cars squeezed in below the top level of the foundation mat - you will park with one wall being a 6' thick foundation.

So on the photos, everywhere that is dirt, at grade, now will be dug out for parking. After the current hole is filled in with a bit of rebar and a few tons of concrete.

Here's a *slightly* different shot than those above me. Pics do this pit any justice. Those guys are at least 15' below the water level. Very cool to see in person.

What is the little pit inside the mat? Footing for the towercrane? Or something for building mechanicals?

Interesting that even though they are that far down below the water level, they do not need to worry about buttressing the riverbank or have to worry about water seepage ala the foundation dig for WPE. It seems that its far enough away from the bank of the river for this not to be a problem. The existing seawall along this section of the river definitely helps as well, I'm sure.

The sheet piles have been tied back to both piles and some kind of micro-pile injection do-hicky.

Great set Solar! Really makes you appreciate how much it must suck to walk on rebar all day... while carrying heavy rebar.

Great contribution Solar as always. The pictures posted on this forum tell an awesome story of construction. Very excited to see this rise.

Are they pouring this mat in phases so the concrete sets faster? Anyone know what that angled rebar is for?

Mat slabs need to be a continuous pour to maintain their structural integrity.

The angled rebar is a depression in the mat slab for that elevator pit that someone took photos of a few pages back.

That mat is a spiderweb of woven rebar, how do they keep track of whats been placed versus what still needs to be laid down. From a layman's perspective it seems like a "guess".
