They did get all of the parking pushed underground, which is something I see people wish for all the time on this board. Perhaps we should celebrate that type of constructive community feedback instead of mocking it.

I can do both.... but its great that most parking will be underground for real.

Another proposal. This time for 1628-30 N Wells St, almost next door to Second City. This calls to tear down the current old 3 story building on site, as well as the small surface lot to the north of it, and replace it with a new 7 story building with 48 residential units and ground floor retail. Building height will be 76'6" and there will be no provided parking. This will completely abut the 32 story high rise next door and won't have alley space there. Architect is Kennedy Mann, who looks like they've done some interesting designs here and there. Developer is North Park Ventures.

Kind of sucks to lose that old building. More currently:

ALSO, the "Jefferson Park Cultural District" is materializing a little bit. There is a zoning application up to expand the Ed Paschke Art Center by building a new 55 foot tall addition at 5374 W Lawrence (behind the art center so to speak). It sounds like they want to put 2 more museums there - the Chicago Art Center and the National Veterans Art Museum which would relocated from 4041 N Milwaukee Ave. Plans also call for a new cafe inside of the 135 year old building on Long across from Ed Paschke Art Center.

In related news, it can't just be myself and the Mayor that has questions about this incident. It was random/it was mistaken identity/broadcasting loudly in media that definitely had never seen attacker before/as a sitting elected official just assaulted in public, let's go with no police report at time.

Questions, is all I'm sayin'.

Who the hell said that? I was referring to patients within the Northwestern system, not the general public. Sheesh!

Yes... sketchy indeed. My pet conspiracy theory is it has something to do with a downtown casino.

What's really a shame is that 1628 N Wells is a handsome late 19th century commercial building that just so happens to be about surrounded by mid-20th century buildings, or else it would be in the Old Town Triangle Landmark District (as it should be)

That does suck. Old town won't be old town if they keep knocking these down. Wish they could replace the gated community next door instead.

No way, Concord Lane is awesome. It's like a streetscape from London or Philadelphia or something. No reason you can't put a 7-story building at the end of it. Just a really simple brick box would be enough, so long as the brick is a nice color/texture. Plus it would help mask the enormous blank wall on the tower next door.

Great image of the block between Armitage, Milwaukee, Western, and the L:

https://images1.loopnet.com/i2/TVhQE.../116/image.jpg

It's fully built-out now with infill. Can also see the new Pennycuff apartments. New seating area atop Margie's is for the new Marz brewery and taproom, I believe.

Marz moved from Bridgeport? I gave an Astronomy-on-Tap talk there once and it was a pretty cool location.

Dang, I wish I would have attended that! That sounds cool.

And yeah, it's a cool place. I went there for the first time this summer. Finally visited that quarry-turned-park, too (Palmisano?). It's got some good height for a Chicago park; you get a great view of the skyline from there.

Clearly we need to do a better job at marketing, but Astronomy on Tap (under normal circumstances) happens in principle (but not in practice) every month, with alternating Northwestern/UChicago speakers.
