Yeah, without more familiarity with the details of the site and plans, it's a bit of a mystery. Especially given that there's now an excavator, what appears to be a pier (or some other kind of) drilling rig, and a mobile crane on site. Perhaps they have to do some shoring up and support work for JFK, etc. before they demo the Chinese Wall remnants and remove the dirt? Just a thought.

UNBELIEVEABLE!
I'm guessing a multi level lobby, JFK & 23rd Street.
I'm hoping restaurant/retail space on JFK

It looks like it may not even reach to 23rd and that section is labeled boh/trash. Maybe set back from the street with a trash pickup?

If there’s a restaurant it would be “back of house”

Don't think it involves a restaurant here. Unless the restaurant is to be called "Loading/Parking."

Think BOH definetely means back of house -- in the generic sense of behind-the-scenes, non-public-facing part of the building. Not necessarily a restaurant.

I didn't see that.
That really doesn't make sense to me.
I would really have loved to see more activity on JFK.

There has been a lot of activity at this site, and it hasn't been clear exactly what they are doing. I've been by it several times, and I have a theory of what is happening.

As you see from the recently posted pictures, it is a tight parcel. Half of the land land area is at the lower level of Schuylkill Banks, and half of the area is elevated from the Chinese wall. The footprint of the building will require both areas. Right now, there are large drills operating on the upper section next to JFK Boulevard. Since JFK is on top of the Chinese Wall elevation, they can't just rip down the wall and start digging it out or it will compromise the road. So it looks like they are drilling next to the road to protect the road and the higher elevation. Steel beams are on site. I guess it's really no different from typical excavations, it is just unusual in that it only involves half the parcel. The next step should be the wall coming down and further site prep.

The good news is that the level of activity is high!

Tremendously excited for this and 21st & Ludlow + whatever will happen on the Traders Joe's lot. Loving the increasing skyline density on this part of town -- especially the view from the Schuylkill inbound.

Love it! Did you happen to see any caissons or rebar at all?

Nice! Awesome seeing the growth of buildings along the river creating that Canyon effect.

It's tough to get a look for rebar/caissons with the street barriers and traffic - but there were a few construction companies working on the site yesterday - so much activity.

Went by this today and it looks like the chinese wall is currently being demolished. Hopefully foundation work will start by spring.

Is that "chinese wall" the last remnants of what I've seen referred to as part of the old (like from the late 1800's) railroad lines coming into the city to the now long gone Broad Street Station?
