Finally - documentary evidence of seasonal delay in North America (cross posted in the weather thread):

This map shows the start date of the coldest three months of the year throughout North America. It clearly demonstrates that this date is the latest in the northeast, especially in northeastern NS, PEI and NL.

Now, to find a similar graphic showing the start date of the warmest three months in North America (although I think it would be similar).

Old map of Halifax superimposed over an aerial view from 2017 or so. They are digging up the red area now and finding some old foundations, fireplaces, etc. That area would have been developed around 1750-1800. The naval yard to the north of that was established in 1759 and was somewhat separate from the town until 1800 or so.

You can see some other interesting details. Modern Water Street is where the old shoreline was. Fort George was expanded over several iterations to become the current citadel in around 1850 or so. Horseman's Fort is by the old graveyards that were originally just outside the town wall. The former library park has large numbers of unmarked graves and the St. Mary's Basilica parking spot might be similar.

Does anyone know what the purpose of this map is? From the soon to be closing Bed Bath and Beyond.

Looks like a city map superimposed over a map of Canada. Assuming that's correct...the next question becomes, which city is it?

Yeah. With a massive river flowing through it. With a land bridge crossing it.

And only a handful of the huges lakes of Canada are present. All in the west. And not exactly in the right locations.

It's a grid of Ottawa over a map of Canada for some reason.

Vanier being the Ottawa equivalent of desolate Baffin Island seems apt at least...

And much of the core outside downtown being faded lines under Hudson Bay as it gets ignored by City Hall on many fronts, especially transit.

Wow, that is super weird

I see one of my offices just North West of Lake Winnipeg and the other in Southern Saskatchewan. I'm trying to understand how this works as a concept but it just doesn't make sense....

Interesting map.

HDI is a composite of life expectancy, years of schooling and per capita gross national income.

I think GNI probably lowers places like Quebec and Atlantic Canada which, anecdotally, seem like they have very high qualities of life. Even if you're quite egalitarian, not having high median incomes because you don't have a large group of really high earners can sink your score.

I haven't been to those southern US states that fall below 0.90 and are on par with states like Mexico City and parts of Costa Rica, but I believe it. If you did a county by county analysis of the US, I think you'd see even more glaring results, particularly in the Mississippi Delta and Appalachia.

The makeup of our provinces hides some of the issues. If you split the provinces into equal northern and southern halves, I suspect that most if not all of the non-Maritime provinces would have a lighter shade of blue (and possibly into the green and yellow) in the northern half...

Wow. Looks like the South committed more horrible crimes against humanity than simply slavery. How is it possible to have 0% indigenous? Was that what the trail of tears was about? Forgive my ignorance of American history.

Edit: Just noticed some mid western and northeastern states are the same.
