Unfortunately, Winnipeggers elected Katz 3 times. They don't seem to be worried about corruption.

As for Adler, if you follow him on social media, you will see that he has converted to mainstream liberalism which is fine. But as he decries the likes of Poilievre, Kenney and trucker convoys and the worst of ugly far right politics, I wonder if he ever regrets profiting handsomely from pumping their tires for all those years. (I'm assuming not.)
Interestingly enough Adler dropped his endorsement for Murray this morning.

Interesting op-ed piece by a political studies professor about the relative absence of crime as a topic in the municipal election:

Crime creates a gap in politics
By: Royce Koop
Posted: 2:00 AM CDT Friday, Jun. 24, 2022

Quote:
Crime used to be a politicized issue in Canada, and still is in many other democracies. In the not-so-distant past, right-wing parties in federal and provincial politics, buoyed by public perceptions that both the courts and governments were more concerned with the rights of criminals than victims, championed a broad range of “tough-on-crime” policies, including the introduction of mandatory minimum sentencing laws.

Indeed, the shocking 2005 Boxing Day shootout between gangs in Toronto that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old bystander likely shifted votes to Stephen Harper’s tough-on-crime Conservative party, helping him to win the 2006 federal election.

But politicians in 2022, for several reasons, appear reluctant to treat crime as a serious issue deserving of governments’ full attention. Even when addressing these themes, politicians pull their punches. One might think that’s appropriate, but here’s the thing: both nature and politics abhor a vacuum. And with every story I read about random violent crime in this country, it feels as if we’re just one entrepreneurial politician away from full-fledged, politicized crime politics.

Its been interesting watching "city policy" people endorse Scott Gillingham since Murray's announcement.

This goes right up to the top, we’re probably worse than Montreal ever was for construction industry corruption but nobody cares. Just imagine motkaluk in the mayors chair. Free reign to pad her families and friends pockets. It’ll be worse than Sam Katz.
S&J only did the foundation excavation work at TNS.

PCL was the contractor for TNS but the concrete pumping was done by Granite Concrete Services which is part of Garcea Group of Companies, that also owns S&J.

They were also the concrete pumping service for 360 Main St..

correct, aware of the whole Police HQ fiasco. What I'm saying is the "entire" city is not run by mafia

charles adler endorsed murray?

He had me on his radio show several times before he left. I actually really liked him. He was nothing like the personna he had crafted on the radio....he hated trudeau junior but loved trudeau senior....i was always amazed at his intelligence and ability to have in depth conversation with whoever he was talking to....i always enjoyed talking to him.

^ He is clearly a very intelligent, very skilled broadcaster. That's why it was so disappointing when he became an increasingly hard-line conservative attack dog as the years went on. I kind of tuned him out some 20-odd years ago and never listened to him again on any platform.

If you want to register you have to book a time with the elections officers, not like last one where you could just show up.

Well, I can tell you a few people... Markus Chambers, Janice Lukes, Sherri Rollins, Matt Allard, Ross Eadie, Cindy Gilroy, and Jason Schreyer are definitely running again. I'm assuming (and have heard second-hand) all the rest are too, but I haven't heard it directly from them, so it wouldn't be directly from the source. Rumour is that Kevin Klein is not running for mayor, but I can't confirm that one.

I'm running in Mynarski, and an NDP affiliated Greg McFarlane is running against Devi Sharma in Old Kildonan.

I've heard Shawn Dobson, a former councillor from 2014 who ran against Scott Gillingham for the amalgamated St. James ward, is running for St. James, as is Kelly Ryback.

That's the extent of my knowledge.

I suppose would be nice if he addressed the panhandling at every red light intersection as we already have laws on the books to address it we just don't enforce it

Thanks TV.

You, Hazel, and Steve Cohlmeyer were the three locals that really shaped my thoughts on what Winnipeg can be. I hope I do you all justice.
