Your most viewed shots on Flickr etc.

What are your ten most viewed shots, according to the "stats" on your Flickr (or similar) site? "Views" have little to do with how good the shots are but more with how they are labelled or tagged, I guess, or how many groups you've put them in. In my case, anything with "university" or "college" in the title seems to get a large number of hits.

Mine are:

#1 Red River College Atrium, Winnipeg -- people just can't seem to get enough of this:

#2 Waddell Fountain, Central Park, Winnipeg -- I thought that maybe people were finding this when looking for "Central Park" in New York but that doesn't seem to be the case. It is one of my better pics anyway:

#3 Lightning Strike, Toronto -- I took this from my balcony and someone put a link to it on some lightning-enthusiast site. It had hundreds of hits in about two days due to that:

#4 Engineering Building, University of Manitoba -- I seem to have made these two gents rather famous on Flickr:

#5 Taché Hall, University of Manitoba -- Not especially interesting but maybe prospective students are evaluating the school's general cleanliness:

#6 and #7 244 Bloor Street Demolition, Toronto 2007 -- I got some good shots of this poor old house, which used to house Mr. Sub and the Country Style Donuts, in its last undignified moments:

#8 University of Manitoba Faculty of Arts (Tier Building) -- They should pay me some sort of commission:

#9 Exchange District, Winnipeg -- Not a really auspicious picture but someone likes it:

#10 Winnipeg Art Gallery -- A pretty good effort, if I do say so myself:

Not that many...I think around 260 for the top one. If you had more in various groups and pools you'd increase that by a lot.

I dream of 200 views. Then again, I rarely put a photo into a group and tend not to overtag photos.

188 views: Wainwright

141 views: Newfoundland Photomosaic

131 views: Skyline

124 views: Entering Las Vegas

123 views: Barnes-Jewish Hospital

114 views: Nevada Test Site

110 views: Iceberg at Quidi Vidi

81 views: Aspen Trees

74 views: Central West End at Dusk

70 views: Always Something to See

And for curiosity sake, a photo with 0 views: Untitled

#1 - Bass Pro Shop u/c in Balzac AB, 6035 views. The Bass pics are linked to some hunting-fishing website which is why the numbers are so high for such bad pics.

WARNING! Next 2 pics are somewhat disturbing.

#2 - Paramedics arrive on foot, 3,121 views

#3 - Poster child for protective head gear, 1450 views

#4 - By this time next year this view will have changed, 783 views

#5 - Save Billy Cowsill's House! 634 views

#6 - Bass Sign, 486 views

#7 - Juicy Tuesdays at Tommy Burger Bar, 458 views

#8 - House Hunting, 452 views (linked to the Contemporist.com)

#9 - Smoke on the Water, 451 views

#10 - I was rushing home..., 322 views

Wow..."Untitled" and "0 views" just add to the forlorn perfection of that image.

My most viewed photo. I can see why - not because it's very good but because it's the kind of photo 16 year old girls hyperlink to their blogs.

This is my second most viewed photo with about 6500 views:

How do you guys get views and comments on your page?

I like to think I've taken some decent quality photos but my flickr is vacant of views.

I believe that you have to be a paying member rather than merely holding a free Flickr account.

I haven't done much with Flickr yet, but I have photos on Pbase.com. Of course with Pbase, the longer the shot has been online, the more likely it is to have more views, and it depends on where you place it in the sequence. These don't correspond to what I think my best photos actually are.

(All are smaller than original size for posting here, and I'm mainly only counting my city photos of Vancouver or St. John's).

So this is my most viewed Vancouver photo, and one of the oldest with my old Canon camera, 611 views -

This one I think is the third most viewed among the older ones, 551 views, and it's not even that great -

Strangely, this is the most viewed St. John's shot from 2007, and is only 174 views -

This is the most viewed St. John's photo from 2004, also with the old camera, 677 views -

This is the shot with the actual highest number, 2176 views, and it's a poor quality old scan from a film photo, probably a skewed number; it's a place where some of my ancestors lived 200 years ago. I've noticed it is being used in a local ad, but I don't mind -

Note: I didn't notice that it said the "10" most viewed shots, so I will have to look again.

Hm. By the time I compiled a list of my top 10 viewed photos that aren't pictures of family viewed by family, the view count would be in the low, low single digits. But here are my most viewed:

1: Belmont, MA; 15 views. The aftermath of a December 2003 blizzard that dumped 2-3 feet of snow over the area. If you watched football that weekend, you probably saw the video of the NE-Miamo game, with the Pats fans having a great time throwing snowballs all over the almost completely uncleared Gillette Stadium.

2: St. Petersburg, FL; 14 views. A pano from our hotel balcony in December.

3: Fenway Park, Boston; 14 views. A pano from the 9/16/03 game vs. the Devil Rays.

4: Watertown, MA; 12 views. A production company filming a commercial for Go-Gurt yogurt in front of our house.

And in case anyone cares, here's the commercial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY8FR36-W6w

5: Ipswich, MA; 8 views. The front lawn of the Crane Mansion in Ipswich.

Those aren't remotely my top 5, but since they're not family photos, I can more or less assume that it's not family generating most of the hits.

Most of my pics with a lot of views are my artwork, so I had to do some scrolling to see the ones that are actual photos. A few have been hotlinked from various blogs and bulletin boards, I would guess. It seems a lot of my tilt-shifts are popular, too.

1336 views, Empire State:

441 views AMC 25:

340 views Downtown San Antonio:

302 views Charing Cross Station:

297 views Tilt-Shift Bridge from London Eye:

272 views Tilt-Shift Vatican:

243 views Alberto Burri Sculpture in Citta di Castello:

227 views Tilt-Shift Rome from the Gianiculo:

222 views Lucas by Chuck Close:

201 views Texas Hill Country near Leakey:

I spend too much time looking at the stats. What really intrigues me on flickr is looking through the referrers list on a daily basis.

Yesterdays referrers had someone searching for "nevada test site", "newfoundland iceberg", "brick house", and "starfish feeding".

I've spent a lot of time on Flickr the last weeks tagging photos, adding them to groups, and last but not least - commenting on other peoples photos. It pays off, I have had lots of activity lately. But it really takes a lot of work!

One tip to get lots of views could be to share photos of a boring Polish city with big population. From my top 10 list 5 photos are from Lodz.

901 views:

(Berlin)

378 views:

(Copenhagen)

335 views (6 favorites - my record):

(Lodz)

318 views:

(Lodz)

195 views:

(Lodz)

183 views:

(Lodz)

178 views:

(London)

131 views:

(Lodz)

129 views:

(Venice)

126 views:

(London)

Neat idea for a thread, Andy.

1 - Ultra Slut (755 views) - My brother bought me this as a gag gift. I'll leave it up to your imagination as to why the hits are so high.

2 - Prime Minister's Residence - 595 views

3 - Studying works better without shoes - 568 views. It was linked to some shoe fetish board on yahoo groups.

4 - Mooney's Bay, Ottawa - 486 views

5 - Hockey Crowd - 437 views. Back when the Senators were actually a good team.

6 - No two - 337 views, most favorites at 14.

7 - Ottawa skyline - 320 views. This one has shot up a lot in the last month for some reason.

The next three are linked to some roadgeek site.

8 - Autoroute 50 ouest / 15 sud - 308 views

9 - Laval, Quebec, 15 sud - 272 views.. and a really crappy picture.

10 - Autoroute 50 - 239 views

Seems very tedious. And it would I would just be getting comments from people looking to bump up their own view count.

Oh well I really don't care then. I just wish I hadn't wasted 25 dollars getting a 'pro' account.

Yeah, it is pretty tedious. But there are also different kinds of groups. I like the more nisched groups were you can find photos posted by people with the same interest or style. Preferably they should be strictly moderated so people don't just dump any crap there. Then there are all those "Post 1 Comment 2" groups. I have avoided those until recently, when I got some invitations to such groups who only allow invited pics. I guess I got flattered, so I joined. Now I really feel like an attention whore... Don't think I'll do that again...

What an interesting collection of photos! I find it interesting that most of my better photos are not as popular. Apparently (in my case) anything from Alabama has been popular in Flickr searches.

My photos from Flickr:

Birmingham, AL - 4,452

Birmingham, AL - 3,178

Birmingham, AL - 2,667

Alabama vs. LSU 2005 - 2,552

Atlanta from Westin Peachtree - 2,022

Charlotte in 2010 - 1,975

Birmingham, AL - 1,900

Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium - 1,705

Myrtle Beach, SC - 1,488

Alabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium - 1,365
