A Beautiful Beast
On August 18 and 19 Nickel Plate locomotive 765 was on display under steam at the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society's facility east of New Haven, Indiana
Sweet. The only working steam train I've ever seen was the Hill Country Flyer. This is a 1916 built Southern Pacific engine that carries passengers through the Hill Country west of Austin. This isn't for transportation of course, just sight seeing and for nostalgia. Of course the old steam engine is need of some repairs, and as a result the train is pulled with a diesel engine instead. The repairs that are needed are quite extensive, apparently this type of repair hasn't been done in the US in 50 years. Something about cracks.
I'd swear rob_1412 spends every waking moment stalking anything with gears, pistons, and steam.
I really like the steam and smoke in that second image and stuff like this is very cool.
