So the next 2 weeks will be busy with cranes going up if anyone likes watching that kind of thing.

This weekend, Kenect will get raised to full height and next weekend, X is scheduled to get it's crane put up. Not sure yet when AC will get one, but they are still just digging on that, so probably a month or so.

City Council subcommittee approval of a combined hotel and sports complex in far north Phoenix. The video is of the entire meeting, but since this was the only agenda item, it's about 10 minutes long.

Yep! With this and the ASU residence going up half a block away, this area is going to start adding to the skyline. Great to see!

Yeah, and a whole cluster of mid rise apartment blocks all through there that will pop just above the tree line from the surrounding highways.

Also a couple pie in the sky 400-500 footers planned in that area

The density downtown is absolutely exploding.

This is truly reminding me of San Diego in the 90s, just unrelenting apartment growth as far as one can see. That's not a bad thing, just the closest comparison I can draw.

Yep, and San Diego is one of the best skylines in the country without a single tower over 500'. I would be happy with that...along with a couple of towers over 500'.

I predict Downtown/Midtown Phoenix will create a NYC central park skyline in the next 50 years with Hance Park at the center and towers rising along 7th Ave/Street and up central connecting the two in a massive skyline of towers (not as tall of course)..... well that's the dream anyway.

Nobody actively takes pictures our our downtown skyline so its tough to get good up to date photography besides some of us nerds that specifically like construction.

Tempe seems to get lots of project update pics, but been a while since anyone has really did a Phoenix project update tour. If I get some time, I'll try either this weekend or next when X crane goes up.

Downtown Phoenix's first EDM nightclub opens Oct. 4. Here's an exclusive first look i

I'm still hating this development but Track Club is opening up a week from today (corresponding w/ First Friday). Kaskade and Lil' Jon are opening up the debauchery festivities lol

From the pictures, the patio area looks a little paltry too...

When thinking about a nightclub, "bright," "open" and "airy" aren't words that generally come to mind.

But downtown's highly-anticipated new nightlife venue, Track Club, is exactly that.

The club, located inside the historic DeSoto building on the southeast corner of Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street, is a collaboration between three veterans of the Phoenix music and bar scenes.

Charles "Chuckie" Duff, a local developer known for adaptive reuse of old buildings, Damon Scott of Rattle and Rum cocktail event catering and EDM promoter Thomas Turner of Relentless Beats gave the Republic an exclusive tour around the space in advance of its Oct. 4 opening.

Here's what Track Club looks like inside

Track Club is split into two main areas, the first being a modern bar with a DJ booth overlooking the space. The ground level features lime green modern couches and cast concrete tiles offer a decorative back splash for the extensive liquor collection behind the bar.

This front area will be open to the public free of charge and will operate as a free-standing bar where guests can order from a menu of craft cocktails.

Guests will enter the second part of the club either through double doors for general admission ticket holders, or through a neon ringed staircase that leads to the VIP mezzanine.

Both floors have a prime view of the stage. Centered between huge LED screens and under a ceiling jam-packed with 140 light bulbs in dozens of rotating fixtures, the stage is an unmistakable centerpiece. Electronic dance music is the name of the game at Track Club, and big name DJs including Lil Jon and Kaskade are already lined up to grace the stage.

Upstairs guests who shell out for special treatment can either dance on the mezzanine or enjoy bottle service at the silver booths, which will be available by reservation only.

There are two bars located upstairs to keep the cocktails flowing on all levels.

How they turned DeSoto into a nightclub

While the concept has been in the works for around two years, construction on the space was fast-paced, Duff says, noting the renovation was an interesting project for him.

Duff usually focuses on adapting historic buildings into modern concepts, but Desoto Central Market, a food hall that previously occupied the historic building, had already remodeled the interior.

"It was sort of an adaptive reuse of an adaptive reuse," Duff says.

The space was redesigned to be both fun and functional, with efficiency being key.

For example all the bars in the the club are connected through one central back of house to allow staff to easily move around. Four cocktails will be on tap, saving bartenders time in making drinks.

Scott is excited about the bars themselves, which are built with "really the finest equipment there is," he said.

On the menu: Fader Ade

All of Track Club's bartenders have been attending a rigorous training program to make sure they're up to speed on the menus and fast enough to keep up with the crowd.

While the full cocktail menu is set, Scott only shared information about one drink.

Keeping with the athletic theme, a boozy version of Gatorade called Fader Ade will be on tap at all of the bars throughout the club. The drink is a house made fruit punch Gatorade-inspired creation "complete with electrolytes and vodka," Scott says.

Phase two of the project, which the team hopes will open in the first quarter of 2020, will expand the bar onto an adjacent patio. A kitchen leftover from when DeSoto operated as a food hall will be utilized to serve a food menu.

Plans for a restaurant partnership are in the works.

What does the retro-athletic theme mean?

When first conceptualizing the decor of the new space, the partners played around with a 1980's Olympics theme. But as development continued, the design morphed into the sleek space it is today — with only hints of retro flare.

One area that will be straight out of the '80s however, is the servers' outfits.

The team worked with local vintage shop Antique Sugar, which is located just a few blocks from Track Club. The shop's owner collected vintage track outfits from the '70s and '80s and the staff were allowed to choose from the collection to create individual looks. Patches and pins of Track Club's logo complete the uniform.

"The '80s Olympics is just an ingredient," Turner says.

"It's more of an aesthetic than a theme," Duff added.

Lil Jon and Kaskade will take the stage

The first show Track Club will host on Oct. 4 when local DJ Gerry Gonza will take the stage for a free preview event coinciding with First Friday.

Other big name shows coming up this fall include Lil Jon, What So Not and Kaskade.

For Halloween, the club will transform into a Stranger Things theme, with the front bar area morphing into pseudo-Starcourt Mall thanks to giant projections on the walls.

NERVO will headline the weekend-long celebration.

More acts continue to be announced as they are scheduled on Track Club's social media pages.
