I agree! The first was super cool but I am happy with the revised version I think it will look real nice.

Much of the redesign was probably due to the hotel portion being dropped in favor of more residential units.

That’s a beautiful tower. Austin has not only added height and density but it has done it with quality, attractive additions.

Not really sure if this is news, but Craft Pride announced they'll be closing to move to a different location on 10/23.

Could mean demolition's coming soon?

Via 313 moved up the street a while ago. It's at The Alibi now.

They filed a permit today for encroachment of an elevated pool deck. Part of it must hang over street right of way.

New elevations were released. The good news is that the site plan is very close to approval, and this looks like it is ready to start as soon as it is approved. The not so good news is that it has gone from 572'/48-stories to 488'/42-stories.

Here's the link to the elevations:

Design looks like it got a lot less interesting too. Substantial downgrade from what we saw earlier: https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/sho...=241095&page=7

This is a very generic design.

Wow, that's a major drop in height. Almost '100. I'm genuinely curious -- what are the possible reasons NOT to keep those 100 feet? Do building costs increase past a certain height? Is that extra tier somehow more expensive to build, and might not be balanced out by unit profit?

We say value engineering but I'm not sure why losing units would help increase the value.

I would have been happier about this one had I not seen the original renderings. I like the colors (kind of complementary to the 4th and Brazos project IMO), and also that it's at least rectangular. Also, it's better than what's there now. However, it's a very different building compared to the first renderings. The height drop seems to be a mistake considering our current housing shortage. I'm curious to understand the reasoning behind it.

I'll withhold judgment until the crane stops spinning, but yeah. I liked the two previous versions more. The first version was really a wow for me. The 2nd was less wow, but still a nice design. This is just kind of a meh design. We'll see, I guess, but I'm getting an "Ashton" vibe, and I'm not crazy about that.

This gives me Bowie vibes. I remember how exciting it looked through renderings, then it was built and blaaaaaggghhhh. But yeah, Ashton too.

Yeah, it reminds me a lot of Bowie. And I agree, I was really excited about Bowie with its renderings, and then just really let down with the final result. It's not my least favorite, but it's never one I'm looking for when viewing the skyline.

As a former Bowie resident, I concur...

Beggars can't be choosers. I'll take it over what's there now.
