Thanks for the info. I don't often see Tennessee plates.

That is actually an Alabama plate. I guess they just bought their car in Tennessee. The TN plate is just a simple dark blue plate with white lettering.

Anyway, this thread is amazing, and it makes me incredibly hungry while also filling me with a strong desire to book another trip to LA. Thanks sopas ej!

Alabama? What an Ala-bummer!

Ah, Alabama. I don't see those plates too often around LA either.

Pictures taken over the last few days...

A rainy March 22nd and 23rd, 2023... though by the end of the 23rd, it started to clear up.

Random photos, taken Sunday, 3.26.2023.

We made Sunday a museum day. That being said, I often go crazy with the pics at museums. So, I tried to restrain myself in choosing which ones to post...

A beautiful day at the UCLA campus...

Some of the dorms in the distance there. The dorms and dining halls will serve as the Olympic Athletes Village for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

The magnolias are starting to bloom.

We've always loved the Fowler.

We looked at some Tingatinga art.

Another interesting exhibit. Myrlande Constant is a Haitian textile artist who specializes in Vodou-themed work.

Catherine Flon is celebrated as the seamstress who sewed the first Haitian flag of independence; she is regarded as a symbol of the Haitian revolution and a patriot.

Jain art. Hehe this is what initially brought us here, and it was one of the smaller exhibits.

Then it was off to another UCLA-affiliated museum, the Hammer Museum, which is not on the UCLA campus.

No, the Hammer Museum is not a museum that displays hammers; it was founded by entrepreneur-industrialist Armand Hammer.

This temporary installation is by artist Chiharu Shiota, called "The Network." It graces the lobby and entrance stairway.

I had mushroom pasta...

I recall thinking its western side of large windowless marble...or whatever stone that is....reminded me of a mausoleum I now know the entire block is made up of the museum & not what originally was an office tower along Wilshire...although I guess the upper floors of that bldg are still commercial, but not really sure.

We've been going to the Hammer for many years now, and we've seen its evolution, starting from the late 1990s. You used to enter it from the office building lobby, that's how I remember it from when we first started going to it. Last year, we noticed that it looked blocked off, and yeah, I had read how they were remodeling it. Yesterday was actually the first day it opened to the public after the remodel; the day before, it was only open to the press and I think they had like a little gala celebration or something. Once the Metro D/Purple Line subway extension fully opens, it'll be a convenient way to get to the Hammer.

The Billy Wilder Theater at the Hammer is pretty cool too, we've been there for various film screenings.

Your pics & thread in the compilation pg about how LA ranked in where ppl would like to move to have made me look more closely at what LA is all about. I read over a yr ago about the Hammer being remodeled, but your photos encouraged me to look more closely at the proj, such as sites like this....

A few random photos, taken today (Thursday, 3.30.2023). Tag along with my partner and me to dinner and a dive bar! It's "Friday Eve" after all!

Left to right: Roasted poblano and guacamole taco; grilled cactus and pico de gallo taco; crispy taco with potato, cabbage, pico de gallo and Cotija cheese.

Guacamole.

Agave wine margarita.

I don't know whose Emmy this was, displayed at this dive bar. And I don't know what they won it for. I didn't ask.

I haven't had a rum and Coke in a very long time.
