Interesting proposal by Cominar for 1800 residential units above Central Station in Montreal:

Great idea.
Right now the place above Central station looks empty and flat. This project will give view, life, attraction.

Nothing, major projects have hit a lull in Montreal since the pandemic began. Still lots of ideas and plans out there, but nothing imminent yet.

Whatever ends up happening here will be a hell of a construction site. They're going to need to build towers above 20+ active rail tracks, pedestrian tunnels, metro tunnels etc.

Also, this is the spot where I'd see a tower above the height limit used to its full potential.

In any event, I just want this thing to go away:

Montreal Central Station redevelopment

Look to Hudson Yards in NYC for a parallel development. I think the equipment and technology to build is there; the owner has sold off old properties to raise money for new projects - that is my feeling. The world has not stopped building and projects have not stopped aging and will need repairs. The office portion would be spectacular, though I have no idea who could be an anchor tenant in Legault's Montreal. Condos, apartments, and hotel suites have their own market.
What used to be "Dorchester Boulevard" is coming back from the dead in a ways and this would really stop the bleeding.

Gare Centrale is ugly on the outside (esp. that sooty, utilitarian parking structure) but quite pleasant on the inside. I hope this redevelopment comes to pass.

Central Station redevelopment

Nothing new in 2024. Given all the demand for apartment/condo towers downtown or new hotels, this site is still the largest to develop. I remember 50 years ago when South Bonventure was a possible project!
