Mackerm, corriganville & Noir Noir have solved the puzzle, the former Meline estate at Stone Canyon and Bellagio it is for the entrance to the garden location....

The gate pillars and lamppost are a match....

And the gate itself appears unchanged.....

Great work by all.

And the building in that photo was under construction in 2014, so it's pretty recent.

Anna May Wong - Toll of The Sea beach

Hey folks! As you may know, I'm a big Anna May Wong fan. She is now on U.S. quarters and that's a good thing indeed.
This is the 100th anniversary of her film "Toll of The Sea". Any sleuths out there wanna try to identify the beach scene locale? WAS it a beach? Or studio trickery?

In November, The AMPAS Museum has a program of films under the title Hollywood Chinese: The First 100 Years. Arthur Dong has curated the series of films to be shown beginning with his documentary titled Hollywood Chinese. I've seen it before and it is excellent.

On November 5th, two Anna May Wong films are being presented: Daughter of the Dragon (1931) and King of Chinatown (1939).

.

Have we seen this bar on NLA?

eBay

Does anyone recognize this location? (note the Thrifty in the same building)

There was briefly a 'Club Morocco' on Sunset which was supposedly located at 9326 Sunset (there's no photograph)
but the building that use to be at 9326 doesn't match the building in the eBay photograph.

That's the Club Morocco that operated at 1551 N. Vine Street for a few years in the mid-1940's.

The Thrifty store next door.

In the club window you can see a poster for singer Kay Starr who was a regular at the club.

Club Morocco came to abrupt end in early 1948 after Uncle Sam came knocking.

Return to Eaton Wash!

For Hallowe'en, one more Eaton Wash event:

LA Times, 9/3/1954

But, no--not Mrs. Eggers:

LA Times, 9/14/1954

But, before we leave, let's meet the phlegmatic Mr. Eggers:

Perfect story for Halloween, odinthor.

Here's a bit more information on his executive.

They wasted no time in executing him.

re:.Club Morocco, 1551 Vine St. Hollywood.

Thanks for figuring out the location of the eBay photograph Noir Noir and for the ephemera, Martin-Pal. I appreciate the help. (tovanger2 too)

From the same photographer (and seller)

This was no doubt taken on the same day as the Club Morocco snapshot.

eBay

This one as well.

eBay

We recently saw a giant SEABOARD LOANS sign downtown on the Barker Bros. building.

eBay

This is no doubt Slapsy Maxie's down on Wilshire Blvd.

Thought it might be that area!
Great work. I think you nailed it.
There's an Anna May Wong event this Friday at Paramount Studios. They will discuss her newly minted coin, screen "Shanghai Express" and Anna's niece (Anna!) will be in attendance.
Hope to see y'all there!

Knowing where this was, I hadn't even read the top of the postcard, but you are correct that it is very incorrect!
